Well...I tend to agree with the nurses...they have scene it all...but their experience is on a 'generic average' some can handle it before, some can't handle it until late...its up to you to pick up on how your baby handles it. If you feel like he can, then he probably can...just watch things and use your common sense and instincts and he should be okay |

Well on the advice of my son's pediatrician he was started on rice ceral around 2 months because he was 11 pounds at birth and ate so much formula and she was worried he would gain to much weight just eating formula. I can give you a few peices of advice though try giving him a pacifier. He does need to suck more then what he sucks ona bottle and that might satisfy him but I dont think that 2 months is to young but that is just my opinion. If you are worried about it ask his pediatrician he/she should be able to tell you whether it is ok for him. I wouldnt put it in his bottle though mix it up and spoon feed him it. |

I think that every baby is different..My cousin was a big eater...And he was not satisfied at all...He just ate and ate...LOL!!..Well, they decided to try him on a little cereal...like you had mentioned here in the bottle for your baby...Not having to make the nipple bigger or anything..because it was still thin like milk...And he got filled up..And it saved on that exspensive milk...but, like the others said here...use your own judgement...This is YOUR baby...But, checking with the doctor is always nice also..I think you did the right thing..No one wants a hungry baby...good luck to you with this..**Big Canadian Hugs** |

i donno about cereal.. but maybe digestive crackers?? i'd be hesitent since the cereal is sooo small but if he really likes it and eats it fine.. keep and eye on his weight... your child has just matured quickly into somewhat solids.... and young infants and toddlers should not be put on diets they should just only be fed healthy items |

Mid, rice cereal is very healthy, lots of iron and vitamins and nutrients made specifically for babies. No sugar, low fat and perfect calories. It is easily digestable, because THIS is what you begin with when starting your baby on a solid food diet. This is not like those carb loaded, fat saturated sugar monger cereals. This is natural, healthy, and perfect first solid food. I just put a little bit in a cup, add some of his formula, a bit of apple prune juice to flavor and help with keeping him from getting constipated, mix it all together very very well and gently pour into his bottle. He loves it. Drinks it and burps better than ever. No or VERY little spit up, less gas, better wet and dirty diapers, and finally full. I have a satisfied baby that sleeps very well and is finally getting our first family portrait done tomorrow! He does not weigh much, only almost 11 lbs. I put him on different formula as well. It has the 2 ingridience in breast milk that help develop the brain and eyes at a better, stronger rate. He seems to like that as well. And at least now I now he is not allergic to formula, rice cereal, prunes or apples! LOL |

OH! and we have a nurse come over every other week to see him and check his height / weight/ development seeing as he was 3 weeks premie. But he is far advanced for his age, so much so that he is HONESTLY going to probibly skip crawling and start walking, and can almost sit up by himself. He is an amazing and smart 2 month old. We play with him and ONLY get him educational toys. (lights and sounds to award kicking, music to help his brain and hearing, and soothing vibrations to make him sleepy, lots of bright colors and patterns ) He loves his toys! :P |

They say not before 4 months because a babies digestive system is not yet ready to digest solids. It will, but it jumps starts the system to do that before it's ready to. My children never required cereal before the age of 4 months but my sister's kids had to do weighted feeds because they had severe reflux. We never fed them the cereal in the bottle though, we let them suck it off the spoon even though they were only a few months old. There was something about one of the babies in our family that had cereal fed to him through a bottle that refused to eat any baby food unless he could suck it through the bottle, I guess we were all paranoid of that happening...LOL. I agree with Jessica when she suggests a pacifier. Baby's do a whole lot more sucking than what it takes to eat and it will also help with gas and constipation. |

They usually say that once birth wieght is doubled, it's fine. Remember too that it's only in the last 15-20 years that this suggestion to wait until 4 months has been made. Generations were raised eating rice cereal from the age of 6 weeks. If your baby is hungry and formula doesn't do the trick, it's always worth a try :O) |

Thanks Mercury. That's kinda how I see it too, I was put on it at about 2 weeks, as was almost my whole family. And the whole pacifier thing, yeah, I totally get you guys on that. BUT If he does not WANT to eat, he won't. He's smart, I'm tellin ya. He will spit it all out and only gently suck on the bottle enough to pacify. So duh, LOL I pull out the bottle and burp him (just in case) and stick a binky in his face, he chows it up and becomes a happy baby. LOL AZ, that toatally sucks about the reflux. MAN, I am not without that expirience already! LOL He did not like breast milk and formula together, made him all acidy/refluxy. Never knew babies so young could ROCKET that stuff out so far! *still in amazement* So yeah, not enough breast milk anyways, so that is when we decided, yup, formula it shall be. He has NOT done that since LOL *praises makers of formula* |

I gave both of my sons baby cereal by the time they were 2 months old. If your baby can take it and it helps fill him up, do it. |

I've always heard two months....I was going to just pass this post but then I saw your comment about him probably skipping crawling....do NOT let him do that....(don't ask my cousin has a 10 month old and has done the research) babys who never crawl and go straight into walking tend to have some issues....so even if it's just for like a week make him crawl before he walks...lol |
