My grandparents have a cast iron frying pan...And I have never heard them say anything like priming them..LOL!!...The only thing that I know that they do when they have not used it for a bit...or a little rust or something comes on them because they were not completly dry was..clean them with steal wool..and turn the burner on low and let it dry..instead of using a dish towel to dry it..I hope that helps...**Big Canadian Hugs** |

Run it with cooking oil or Bacon grease and bake them in the oven for a bit. This is priming. If you dont do this the iron will rust. In esscence you are baking the grease into the skillet or pan. I think you set it on the oevn for about 400 degress for an hour then let it cool. Redo it again with grease and rebake then weash pan and begin using it like any other pan. Hope this helps. |

usually rub it with oil and heat it.... may i comment avoid washing it with soap... it's pourus so it will soak up flavouring and such what is put on it and you don't want soap to be on it |

Midnightly is right, don't wash it with soap. I use salt, to clean mine. |
