If you agreed to it then I think it is legal, however, I do feel you should ask exactly what your duties, hours and salary are likely to be, otherwise you may find that you have worked for next to nothing! |

I'd talk to them about this (Of course with the other girl, don't go alone since your not just having trouble, she is too.) |

As LSR said since you agreed to it it's a verbal contract. |

You defintely need to clear this up. Its very unprofessional for a business not to fill you in on the bare basics. The National Labor Board,--(wage & hour division) only enforces that you get paid at least the miminum wage, for each hour worked. It does not enforce rules about getting anything above the set standard, so if you were making 9$ a hour, for 20 hours, and you only got paid the 5.15$ ? for 20 hours, not much they will do. And certain full time students are only required to be paid 90% of the miminum. Shhesh, they didnt ask you to fill out a W-4 withholding form. Emergency contacts, etc. try and get their employer id number, just in case if they do pay, that your witheld taxes, are actually paid in from the employer. I know jobs are so hard to find nowadays, i just have a bad feeling on this. Maybe this business is so laid back, they pay you out of a shoebox on fridays's... j/k, dont be afraid to ask questions, the worst thing you can do is not ask!! |

I don't know about legal, but it definately isn't stable. They could tell you tomorrow that they don't need you anymore and there wouldn't be anything you could do about it, because there isn't any paperwork connecting you to the company, yeah I doubt it's legal. And they're probably planning on paying you "under the table" meaning out of their pockets instead of with a check. |

yah it's legal.... if they didn't tell you how much it's probally minimum wage...they should ask you to fill out a form to tax reasons though.... |
