I was just wondering if anyone was into Oprah's new Book Club? I decided to order East of Eden and just got it today. I have lots to read to catch up.

Have you read it and what did you think?

Maybe we should have a Oprah's USM Book Club. We could all meet in Chicago! LOL!

Date: 8/1/2003 7:15:00 PM  From Authorid: 60052    I haven't read it, but I want to. My husband won't let me buy any more books though, until I finish the ones I have. I have like 5 going at once right now. LOL

Date: 8/1/2003 7:29:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53961    You could check it out at the library. You can join Oprah's Book Club by going to her website http://www2.oprah.com I was saying Chicago because that's where her show is from.
Date: 8/1/2003 7:43:00 PM  From Authorid: 53427    I've read four of the books on her book list. Drowning Ruth, We Were The Mulvaneys, She's Come Undone and Vinegar Hill. All are very good books. I love to read.
Date: 8/1/2003 8:35:00 PM  From Authorid: 53052    not an oprah fan... and never read any of her "book club" books.. there should be a book club for the younger generation....
Date: 8/1/2003 11:50:00 PM  From Authorid: 45684    I have to admit, I almost always like the books that are recommended by Oprah's book club.
Date: 8/2/2003 4:26:00 AM  From Authorid: 10245    I haven't read East of Eden, but I've read many of the others she's recommended and have enjoyed most of them. My favorite was The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver... it left me absolutly speechless. I've read a few of her books and they've all been fabulous. Right now I'm reading Prodigal Summer by Kingsolver
Date: 8/2/2003 6:18:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53961    She had stopped her book club for awhile and now has started it up again and is using classics.
Date: 8/2/2003 7:45:00 PM  From Authorid: 42945    I have seen an Australian movie with the same name as that book, now if its the same story, its absolutely wonderful, I saw the Oprah show just recently over here in Australia, about the release of the book and it was just great...hugs
Date: 8/2/2003 8:20:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53961    I am normally a reader of a magazine length story from time to time. I need to get back into more lengthy and intense reading. Hopefully this will do it.
Date: 8/3/2003 4:55:00 PM  From Authorid: 62095    Did you hear about how East of eden rank really low on the charts and then the day after her show it went all the way to the top? That is crazy. I am sure it is great for the people that write the books, they must think that it is all over for them and then oprah comes along and makes them number 1, I think it is great. i havent read to many of the books but I have read a few. Gap Creek was a great one, I highly recommend it. I have Icy Sparks right now, I havent read it yet, has anyone read it? I have so many books. My husband thinks I am obsessed, we think I should start my own library. Have you read any nicholas sparks books? they are all good.
Date: 8/3/2003 10:06:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53961    I heard that it went to #1 on Amazon the first day.
Date: 8/4/2003 5:06:00 AM  From Authorid: 10245    I have a plan to write a book... any old book... and then somehow get a spot on Oprah. All she needs to do is mention a book and it soars to #1.... insane I've got Gap Creek here, too... haven't read it yet. I also loved the 2 books I've read by Wally Lamb: She's Come Undone (makes you wonder how a man could have written this one) and I can't remeber the title of the other one... it was about twins, one was schizoprenic and one wasn't (I think it may have been an oprah book , too.)
Date: 8/4/2003 5:07:00 AM  From Authorid: 10245    I think I did read Icy Sparks... but can't recall what it was about... refresh my memory a little and I may be able to share my opinion
Date: 8/4/2003 10:38:00 AM  From Authorid: 62095    Icy sparks is about a girl that has violent tics and uncontrollable cursing.
Date: 8/4/2003 10:42:00 AM  From Authorid: 10245    nope, didn't read that one
