I like meatloaf occasonally but Inever make it anymore because my husband does not like it the way I make it. I mix sausage, hamburger, bread crumbs(or crushed crackers), tomato sauce and eggs in a bowl and mix it up then shape it into a loaf and bake. Anyhow he says it is nasty with tomato suace and sausage cause that is not how his Mommy makes it(ok I am being a little sarcastic here LOL)He is always telling me how his mom makes this and his mom makes that and honestly his mom is a terrible cook. So how do you make meat loaf if you do make it? I just wanted to find out if I am the only one who puts sausage and tomato sauce in it?

Date: 7/29/2003 7:44:00 PM  From Authorid: 53427    I make mine the same way my mom did when I was growing up. With meat, onions, ketchup and oats, oh yeah and two eggs.
Date: 7/29/2003 8:21:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53900    The way I made it is teh way my mom taught me I have tried his mom's recipe and honestly it really does taste like a big hamburger. It is really plain. I know there are a million recipes for meat loaf just like there are for chili and chicken etc. Like for instance I made chili a few weeks ago and I told him we should add a beer to it and he freaked out like why would I want to do that...Well my mom found this recipe a long time ago that had a beer added and it supposedly makes you not get heartburn as bad. I dont know if it is true or not but I do know my mom always got compliments on her chili. Then I was making potato salad and I went to cut up some boiled eggs and he about freaked...he said he had never heard of putting boiled eggs in potato salad. I dont know it is like if his mom does it one way that is the only way to do it....period.
Date: 7/29/2003 9:01:00 PM  From Authorid: 28193    It's funny how people make things different. I put coffee(already brewed), in my spaghetti sauce. It sounds terrible, but it isn't.

Date: 7/30/2003 2:06:00 AM  From Authorid: 48250    LOL I'm Sorry.., But I think I would have to tell him after a while., to go to his Mama's house & eat..I put onions, garlic powder, Hunt's Meatloaf Fixins ( just a fancy tomato sauce ), salt. pepper. dried bread crumbs, or the crushed crackers. then after it has baked, then add ketchup on top .. My Grandmother's receipe...T/C....

Date: 7/30/2003 8:01:00 AM  From Authorid: 33517    I hate making MeatLoaf...I don't like the feel of the hamburg in my hands...LOL!!..But, I have to...Bradley really likes it...This is my way...simple...hamburg, onion, crackers, tomato soup, garlic salt, egg, little chunks of celery...and maybe a tad of Ketchup or bbq sauce...depending on my mood at the time...I sometimes add a can of veggies...And I put ketchup on the top for the last 10 minutes..I don't care for meatloaf cause I don't care for hamburg..but, everyone else likes it....I think anyways....**Big Canadian Hugs**
Date: 7/30/2003 8:43:00 AM  From Authorid: 44321    I don't make meatloaf but the hubby does he eats that mess..he puts chopped onions, onion powder, garlic powder, italian seasoned bread crumb, basil ,oregano and some egg mixes it together ,the way he shapes it in the pan looks like a meat football LOL and he puts bacon on the top and that is his meatloaf.
Date: 7/30/2003 9:48:00 AM  From Authorid: 36757    i'm not a big fan of meat, but i eat meatloaf once in a while. *runs to get a cookbook* well i wanna say this is the right one... ground beef, 2 eggs, crushed crackers, a little salt and pepper, milk, a little worcestershire (i have never been able to pronounce that) sauce, and some onion. my brother doesn't like onion so my mom doesn't put it in. oh and she puts catsup on top with 3 strips of bacon. she said the flavor in the bacon goes in the loaf, but i can't taste the difference lol
Date: 7/30/2003 9:21:00 PM  From Authorid: 13897    Medusa- meatfootball! LMAO!!!! that is hilarious!
Date: 8/29/2005 5:24:00 AM  From Authorid: 11341    My hubby is thankful I dont cook like his mom. He said she was a terrible cook. I generaly put seasoning salt, garlic, crackers or cornflakes, egg and A1 in my meatloaf, after that I will top it with whatever sounds good lol. Oh, hubby doesnt like it with tomato sauce so I dont use that. My mama used to make it with sausage so no you arent the only one.
