Police Lost Inmates Leg ~~Angeleyez~~

A Colorado prison inmate is suing the town of Greenwood Village claiming police let his prosthetic leg slip through their fingers.

Police either lost, sold or destroyed the leg seized two years ago during his arrest, Stanley Daves alleges in a federal lawsuit.

The 38-year-old was wearing one prosthetic leg and had a new one in his car when police arrested him around December 2001, said his attorney, Thomas Bulger.

Officers impounded his vehicle, seizing all the property inside, including the new leg, Bulger said.

By the time Greenwood Village released his property in July 2002, Daves already was serving a three-year sentence for forgery. His mother called police and asked if she could pick up her son's leg. Police said they couldn't locate it, Bulger said, and they still can't.

Daves, who lost his leg 20 years ago in a traffic accident, is "not claiming he's entitled to millions of dollars," Bulger said. He just wants his leg or the money to replace it.
