Suddenly Kas couldn't hold it in anymore. She flung her arms around her mother and burst into tears."Shhhh.It's okay, sweetie."her father soothed. They led her into the house and sat her down on the couch. There she told them the whole story, starting with the art academy she so badly wanted to go to,and ending with that night's events. From the A-group to how she suspected Samantha's father beat her. When she was through, her mother looked close to tears herself, her father pacing backwards and forth from the couch to the table, and her brother gaping at her, stunned.Suddenly, her mother jumped up off the couch, cleared away her own tears, and turned to her."It's time you knew the truth.Elliott,go to bed please."Her brother, disappointed, meekly and quietly obeyed. When her mother heard his door slam shut, she started on."Twenty-five years ago, when your father and I were a few years older than yourself,we attended Piney Oaks Art Academy. There's was a girl there,Annette Griffith. You could call her our friend,I suppose. We liked to play pranks on one another constantly.Us and another fellow, Jeremy Johnston. One day,Annette went too far.She spread a terrible rumor around the school that was truly and utterly false. So,we decided to get back at her. It was a week before Halloween,so we said that would be the best time to put our plan into action. She could be scared rather easily. There was an old wooden bridge on the campus.I took her out there and waited. Finally, after a few minutes your father and Jeremy emerged out of the shadows, dressed in all black. They started swinging clubs at her.Annette was rooted to the spot. Finally, when they were about five feet away. She backed up.Right off the bridge. Her scream echoed in my mind long after that happened.Investigators said she hit her head on a rock. That she was killed almost immediatly.Of course,we were prime suspects. They knocked us off the list as lack of evidence.Jeremy commited suicide when he was seventeen. That day, when we burned the paper,it was because it said they were reopening the case.We aren't very proud of what we did,nor what Jeremy did to himself."Her father had long since sat down, his head in his hands. He stood up and said,"We'll allow you to go to Piney Oaks if you want, but you cannot speak another word of this, you hear?"She nodded. Her head started spinning.Could it be? She had never heard Chasity say she ever had an aunt or anything. Her mind was flooded with questions, but she never got answers, because she blacked out....Part 10 coming soon!
