A Peruvian boy who was thought to need major surgery for a heart condition has been cured - simply by moving house.
Eight-year-old Luis Daniel Manon had suffered the condition, which left him permanently tired and turned his skin purple, since birth.
Doctors said half of his heart was undeveloped and his only chance of survival was a complicated and expensive operation which his parents could not afford.
Luis wrote to Brazilian president Luis Inacio Lula da Silva asking for help and Mr da Costa made a deal with Peru's government for both countries to share the cost of bringing him to Rio de Janeiro for a consultation.
But days after arriving in Rio, doctors at the National Institute of Cardiology were amazed to see the boy's symptoms had disappeared.
Doctor Luis Carlos Simoes told Jornal Hoje: "Luis's home city Cuzco is 3360 metres above sea level and the air has less oxygen.
"When he got to Rio, which is at sea level, he instantly got better. All he needed was a change of address, not heart surgery."
The boy's family has now returned to Peru, where they will move to a city at sea level.
