The 19-year-old woman attended a party just days before charges were filed against Bryant and appeared to be in a good mood and “bragging” about the incident, several teen-agers at the party told NBC News on Tuesday. Another friend told the Associated Press that the woman had “visible evidence” of the alleged attack a week later. The alleged victim was at a party three days before the charges were filed and appeared to be in a good mood, NBC News reported, citing five party attendees. “She was bragging about it,” party host Steve Evancho told NBC News. The victim described Bryant’s anatomy when asked about it at the party, the host said. Another friend gave a different impression of the victim, saying she was still “shaken up” by what happened. Luke Bray declined to be more specific out of respect for his friend and her family. “There is visible evidence of what happened,” he said. Bray, 21, said he saw the woman about a week after the alleged assault on June 30. “She was still shaken up. She was pretty much in denial,” he said. “She couldn’t believe it.” He said the woman was also at his house Friday to watch news conferences where Hurlbert announced the charges and Bryant admitted adultery and apologized to his wife. “She couldn’t believe that his wife was sitting there and apparently didn’t care about adultery,” Bray said. Eagle County sheriff’s spokeswoman Kim Andree declined comment on NBC’s report and Bray’s statement. Neither prosecutor Mark Hurlbert nor Bryant’s attorneys returned telephone messages seeking comment. Meanwhile, a friend of the alleged victim told the Rocky Mountain News that the woman has had second thoughts about filing charges against Bryant. “She just didn’t think that it was going to get this big,” said Brigitte Lowry, who told the Rocky Mountain News that was a best friend of the accuser. Lowry also told the newspaper that the woman has received some death threats over her accusations. Few details have been made public about the woman’s accusations against Bryant, who is charged with class 3 sexual assault, the equivalent of rape under Colorado law. The 24-year-old superstar has denied attacking the woman, a concierge at the four-star Colorado resort where authorities say the attack took place. Eagle County authorities have refused to discuss evidence in the case and convinced a judge to seal the court file, which details the woman’s allegations and the version of events that Bryant gave to police. A spokeswoman and victim’s advocate for the Eagle County District Attorney’s Office said victims of sexual attacks are told the road ahead of them will be difficult and are offered counseling. “But you don’t know until you go through it,” Krista Flannigan said. Bryant’s lawyers could not be reached for comment. Bryant is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 6 to hear the charges against him. The state’s crime lab still processing evidence, according to Pete Mang, deputy director of the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
Does anyone else find it weird that someone could go "partying" so soon after supposedly getting raped?
