ACCUSER ‘BRAGGED’ ABOUT INCIDENT

  Author:  61897  Category:(News) Created:(7/24/2003 12:56:00 PM)

The 19-year-old woman attended a party just days before charges were filed against Bryant and appeared to be in a good mood and “bragging” about the incident, several teen-agers at the party told NBC News on Tuesday. Another friend told the Associated Press that the woman had “visible evidence” of the alleged attack a week later. The alleged victim was at a party three days before the charges were filed and appeared to be in a good mood, NBC News reported, citing five party attendees. “She was bragging about it,” party host Steve Evancho told NBC News. The victim described Bryant’s anatomy when asked about it at the party, the host said. Another friend gave a different impression of the victim, saying she was still “shaken up” by what happened. Luke Bray declined to be more specific out of respect for his friend and her family. “There is visible evidence of what happened,” he said. Bray, 21, said he saw the woman about a week after the alleged assault on June 30. “She was still shaken up. She was pretty much in denial,” he said. “She couldn’t believe it.” He said the woman was also at his house Friday to watch news conferences where Hurlbert announced the charges and Bryant admitted adultery and apologized to his wife. “She couldn’t believe that his wife was sitting there and apparently didn’t care about adultery,” Bray said. Eagle County sheriff’s spokeswoman Kim Andree declined comment on NBC’s report and Bray’s statement. Neither prosecutor Mark Hurlbert nor Bryant’s attorneys returned telephone messages seeking comment. Meanwhile, a friend of the alleged victim told the Rocky Mountain News that the woman has had second thoughts about filing charges against Bryant. “She just didn’t think that it was going to get this big,” said Brigitte Lowry, who told the Rocky Mountain News that was a best friend of the accuser. Lowry also told the newspaper that the woman has received some death threats over her accusations. Few details have been made public about the woman’s accusations against Bryant, who is charged with class 3 sexual assault, the equivalent of rape under Colorado law. The 24-year-old superstar has denied attacking the woman, a concierge at the four-star Colorado resort where authorities say the attack took place. Eagle County authorities have refused to discuss evidence in the case and convinced a judge to seal the court file, which details the woman’s allegations and the version of events that Bryant gave to police. A spokeswoman and victim’s advocate for the Eagle County District Attorney’s Office said victims of sexual attacks are told the road ahead of them will be difficult and are offered counseling. “But you don’t know until you go through it,” Krista Flannigan said. Bryant’s lawyers could not be reached for comment. Bryant is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 6 to hear the charges against him. The state’s crime lab still processing evidence, according to Pete Mang, deputy director of the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.

Does anyone else find it weird that someone could go "partying" so soon after supposedly getting raped?

Date: 7/24/2003 10:26:00 PM  From Authorid: 61894    I just wish people would leave people famous like that alone with whatever problems they have. Try to focus on the good here people!!! - CanuckBeast
Date: 7/25/2003 12:02:00 PM  From Authorid: 13636    if she actually was, which I SEVERELY doubt, it wouldnt be all that strange to go to a party....its amazing what denial will do.

Date: 7/27/2003 2:40:00 PM  From Authorid: 26085    The whole world knows it wasn't rape, yet the whole world knows that any celebrity, should watch each and every step he takes...sadly, he's the one who has to answer to his own wife, to his teammates, to his sponsors...being in the wrong place at the wrong time....is something we see a little too often with celebrities, who make a living doing whatever they do......somewhere in that " NIGHT" in Colorado, he had a choice to stay OR walk away....his choice, left him with a set of consequences I'm sure he didn't imagine....but very well should have expected. If you could count the number of women who try and snag celebrities...after each and every sporting event....I'm sure you'd have to ask yourself, has she really been raped?? OR, did things not turn out the way she intended them to be?? what if it wasn't a celebrity? would her claim be the same??? Many celebrities have made mistakes, by their own choice and ruined their families and careers, and had the same charges and allegations and either were only punished punitively or, small amounts of jailtime due to being celebrities, a judge will NOT and can NOT, take away a person's means of living.....especially when a person is under contract or has sponsors. ONLY a person who's been raped, knows what she would do, to try to forget what's happened to her....every story has 2 sides.
Date: 7/27/2003 2:42:00 PM  From Authorid: 26085    As far as I know the evidence says that intercourse..." rough" happened...maybe the night wasn't a " lovemaking " experience for this girl, and she thought she was a little more than that and this whole case is nothing more than her own vengance....who knows??? this case can take so many turns..
Date: 7/29/2003 6:02:00 AM  From Authorid: 27691    to all the ignorant people out there, life as a sport figure has its perks of being hounded by groupies every day wanting to have rough sex with them. she is a groupie who wanted attention and maybe an out of court settlement of some sort from bryant in order for him to avoid trail. she would be rich and famous by appearing in taboids that will pay her 50,000 bucks for a interview. she didn't expect bryant to insist on the trail which tells me that bryant might be right here and the girl is lying. its easy to self inflict body bruises and say it happened during the supposed assault. i am not saying that kobe didnt do it but im not saying he did it also. we shall leave the jury to decide that in the courts of our legal system for the truth. bryant got his wife a 4 mil. diamond ring....that is what you call a nice gift for goofing up huh?
Date: 7/31/2003 4:25:00 PM  From Authorid: 62085    Really, the fact is, if the man had any honor, it never would have happened, rape or no rape.
Date: 8/1/2003 9:21:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 61897    Exactly my thoughts, KR. Even if he is innocent (of the rape) he deserves the public tarnishing of his reputation. Just because he's famous doesn't mean he should get away with stuff like that, just the opposite he should be MORE careful, this proves why.
Date: 12/10/2003 1:04:00 PM  From Authorid: 32133    the girl just wants attention
