I have never had anyone steal mail out of my box, butI have heard of people stealing it from apartment complexes where there are alot of them together, And yes I am guilty of taking an extra newspaper a time or two, but not the whole stack! |

I don't have a mail slot in my front door,so they stuck a mail box on my outside wall LOL and I had only one incident where a credit card offer envelope was ripped open because they thought it had an actual card in it,I have not had that trouble since. My mail man likes to leave the flap open but the majority of people in my city have the mail slots in the front door. And I have seen people that pay for one paper and grab 2.But they also have the free city papers in the boxes that flap open and the kids take the papers out and give them to the people walking lol... I had one try to sell me one I said ,Nope I can get a free one thanks |

I live out in the country and my mailbox is on the main road about 1/3 mile from my house. I don't think that I've ever had anything taken. There is a cluster of mailboxes where mine is and just before christmas, you'll see all kinds of packages left at the foot of the mail boxes. A thief could just drive down the road I live on and pick up a couple dozen packages. But to my knowledge it just hasn't happened. The theives just don't know people live out were we do. |

It is against the law to open anyone elses mail, but that is not to say that it doesn't happen. As for the newspapers, I guess it is on an honor system. It must work pretty good, because they would get rid of them if it didn't. I have often thought that it was a dumb way to sell newspapers. Hope this helps. Be Good... |

Well I'm not sure about the ones in front of the house but we have mail box system like the one's in the post office except there are only 8 little boxes to put the mail in and you need a key for that anyways. |

The town where I live is too small to have mailboxes. You have to go to the post office to get your mail. |

Yes people do that but those machines are few and far between at least where I live they are...I have accidentally taken more then one before. As for teh mailboxes I guess mail can be stolen but it is a fedaral offense if you are caught even tampering with the mail. I wont put bills in my mialbox though I go straight to the post office to mail them and that is only about 2 miles from our house. However alot of people have those mail things on their house it all depends where you live. Like for instance my sister lives way way out in the country and she does not get her mail at home at all she has to drive about 7 miles to the post office and pick her mail up and mail it all there. |

It happens...but its a federal offense, felony, and therefore just really really bad...not to mention we've wisened to the point of sending checks and money orders most of the time |

I've never had anything taken, nor have I ever Taken anything, however I have found odd things (like trash) inside my mailbox, and when I was younger I used to put my old school papers in other people's mailboxes (I don't know why... justs did *shrugs* it was in like, 2nd grade.) Now my mailbox is on my house, right next to my front door, so it'd be pretty risky for anyone to take our mail. And as for the newspaper things, Here where I live the boxes work different, so you put in a quarter, open the door, and only one newspaper is avaliabe, but me and my friends in my old town used to take all the newspapers from the box. Oh well, *shrugs* Erin- |

If any mail has been stolen, I haven't noticed! LOL. We have a thing around here where kids like to drive there cars down the road and hit mailboxes with baseball bats. . .Luckily, our mail box is on our porch! But i know many people who have had there's smashed. |

My parents mailbox is locked. Only the mailman and them can get in. I was thinking the same thing earlier tonight about the newspaper thing. That's funny! *Brown Eyed Angel* |

We live out in the country, and we have to walk a good ways down our driveway and across the road to our mailbox. We have never had any trouble with anything being stolen out of the mailbox. I have always thought that it would be neat to have our mail delivered thru a mail slot in the door, but then our dogs would have a jolly time tearing it to shreds. LOL! |

These are all interesting. It seems your mail is safer if you're out in the sticks. It's against the law here, too, to open someone elses mail. I was thinking about the newspaper stands. Perhaps the vendors charge more than they would normally for the newspapers in case someone does take the stack and perhaps they also realise the occurences of that happening, or people taking more than just one, are a lot less costly than paying a person to actually sell the newspapers like they sometimes do here in booths or stands. |

For us our mailbox is waaay at the end of our driveway, which is comon here. But it is afederal offense to even open someones mailbox. We've never had any problems w/ it here. But there are small towns that have to go to post offices. Wish my mail was delivered to my door! |
