The Hermitage is the ruins of an old mansion in the Ancaster area near Hamilton. The ruins and the woods surrounding them are haunted by the ghost of a black slave, who hanged himself from a willow tree on the property. He was in love with his white master's daughter and she loved him. But their love was forbidden and the daughter killed herself.
