unfortunately i look at 5 bux as enough to feed me and my partner for 2 days... so no i wouldn't pay...i couldn't pay.. if finacials were better maybe i would... but i would also like to see new life...for example if i go into chat right now there is NO ONE in there... i can reply for an hour and in that time there may be 1 new post... i still love USM ever soo much BUT the life what used to be is no longer here  |

Not this subject again...Sorry, no disrespect for you Silver fire, but on another post about a month back I talked until I was blue in the face about WHY it really Is really necessary to have a fee here.. Okies, here I will restate what I said on those posts... What would you do if you ran across an absolute vile person that wants to do nothing but harrass you and other members? You'd want them Banned, right? Well back before the fee was instated, and before you were even a member here, USM came into contact with more than a few people who would join up just to harrass people, make loads of trouble, make ten to twenty accounts and decieve the very members here out of their trust they put into USM. Now.... Look around.. Do you see this stuff still happening? No.. Why? Because there is now a fee to keep those people that aren't allowed on this site from making double acct.s or coming back. See someone isnt going to pay $5 dollars for every acct just to come here and play with people's minds.. Thats why it is there. Would I pay?? HECK yea I would.. Would I have paid before joining nearly 3 yrs ago, I believe I would, because I would have looked over the site (which I did) thoroughly before I joined. REMEMBER there is still availiability to Sponsor people that you want on this site. Also, I would pay $5 a month or a yr to be on this site. I love it that much, I devote time here as an admin, tag maker and User. Ginger and George made this site for us all to come to and enjoy and because of more than a few trouble makers they had to limit the problems somehow, AND I know that had to break their hearts a bit. So out of respect for them, and the members of this site, I DO think the fee should stay because USM is more peaceful than it has been in the past. *huge hugs* Love, Amanda  |

honestly, ya, i have $5 lying around, no i dont have credit cards. what about all those people who dont have that lil plastic card but still care about this place and enjoy coming to the site daily. i think its ridiculous that a fee should have to be paid just for me to have 2 STAY here. i understand the fact that we now have to pay $5 just to join, but its because of lil brats who just had to ruin it for the rest of us. im proud to be a part of this site, and im proud to be a member, and to be able to post my stories, poems, and whatever else i may want 2 put up there 4 others 2 view. but if i found out that id have 2 now pay to remain a member of this site, whether its charity, or donation or whatever, im sorry to say, but id leave. its not what id want to do, but id have to. once again, this is just MY opinion.... thank u 4 listenin  |

insatiable, there is also an option of snail mailing the $5 dollars to George and Ginger, and from what I know, I think all of it is put towards donations, and for those that may have a really rough go of it.. Dont quote me on that last part.. All I do know is that Ginger and George arent doing this as a money maker on their part. I agree with Amanda, it was mainly to keep the trouble makers out, they were causing ALOT of stress for both the users and admins. I joined this site way back when we could actually reply without an account, and that was changed for the exact same reasons. Maybe someday George and Ginger may find a different way to keep bad people out of here, but for now, its this. And besides, do you have any clue how much it costs to run this site?  |

I feel that for people who are not living in the U.S. this would be very inconvenient. We can't just pop a $5 bill into an envelope and drop it into the nearest mailbox. I would have no objection to paying (although I would have to use snail mail as I do not use credit cards), my only objection would be the messing about that I would have to do to actually get the money to USM.  |

Another Post about the fee ???? *rolls eyes*...I'm sorry people cannot understand WHY this was initiated in the First place...Sire and M'Lady decided to do this after some members became Hostile to other Members as well as to the Administration...This was meant as a DETERENT !!!...I'm sorry but I cannot even percieve someone today Not having $5.00 to join Anything and keep in mind this is a "ONE TIME,LIFETIME Membership"...Where are you going to find something like that Anywhere  ...USM is All about Caring,Loving and Being Supportive to it's Members when it was found that some people were being Sarcastic and Hurtfull something had to be done...I WOULD even to this day,Pay to be here at USM but it was thought that the people who chose to be harassing,Would Not...What you also need to know is that it takes a Great Deal of money to run this site so a piddling $5.00 from a few wouldn't even make a dent in it's upkeep...Another thing you all should know is that Sire and M'Lady (Radman and Ginger) put the "Fee" into the USM Fund which is used to benefit USMers who find themselves in dire straights ...The "Fee" was started when members were at about 60,000+ and we are now at 63,000+ so it would seem Some don't mind the "$5.00 ONE TIME,LIFETIME FEE" at all...I would also like to mention that lots of people "Sponsor" a Friend or Family Member and in that case the "Fee" is waived...It hurts me to see Posts like this because people who post these types of things have NO idea who Sire and M'Lady are and what they do for USM and USMers...Time and Time again they have reached into THEIR pockets to help USMers who may not be able to meet their Monthly expenses and I assure you it does not come from the "Fee" :|:|...I'm sorry for being so Blunt here but you need to know More about the Owners of USM before you rant about a measly $5.00 "Fee" that in Most cases is waived...Before you jump on the bandwagon and IF you want someone to become a part of USM,PM Sire or M'Lady and "Sponsor" this person...There ya go,NO "Fee"...OK I'll get off my Soap Box now but things,even typed can be hurtfull and I will Not allow Sire and M'Lady's name to be tainted nor their motives questioned because someone cannot understand Why the "Fee" was initiated ...Have a Great Day...I Remain In Spirit,  |

i wouldn't have paid before because really, i didn't have two nickels to rub together lol andeven if i did i couldn't imagine paying to join a forum when so many are free. i thought it over though and decided i would pay it when i had spare because not only is the site unique, but it must cost a good sum of money to run a site this large that needs space for over 60,000 people not to mention alot of personal work. i haven't seen any other forum yet where people reach out to each other is such a way as they do here.  |

We would still loose alot of people if we had to pay $5 a year because the younger adults wouldn't be able to do that and this site is for everyone not just for those that have money to do so yearly. I agree months ago when I first joined it was so much better and it has gone downhill but its got its up and downs. There are still a million great people here that I have come to know and a million great people that I haven't had the pleasure to know. This site has helped me out alot and I just got my friend to join and told her that its worth the $5 bucks.  |

amanda and linda hit the nail on the head so to speak. I have been here for a LONG time and i have seen many problems with people during that time. alot of people with alot of time on their hands to spend harassing everyone they came in contact with. when i first came here, you didn't even need an account to reply to a post. you wouldn't believe some of the annonomous replies that were left. sometimes a change is good. i spent some time on this site before i became a member and looked things over. i would spend the 5 bucks. it is a small amount that i can dig out of a change jar. george and ginger just have the best interest of the members in mind. like i said, there have been alot of problems over the years and alot of members left because of it. instead of losing the good members, they'll keep the bad ones from joining. it is actually in the best interest of the members.  |

I think the $5 fee is necessary. People can still check out the site without an account for as long as they want and see how they like it. Then if they do they can get their account.
I have been here for 2 1/2 years but I must admit I come here less and less. The past week I have been here alot to catch up. But its nothing like it used to be. I think this is a great site that is already very liberal with their ways..i mean this site was made for posting things on the parnamoral and unsolvedmysteries. but look at all the posts that have nothing to do with that stuff. Even I admit I make plenty of posts that wouldn't be considered paranormal, but I am definately trying to work on it. at least i can say that..this site is so generous. I would like to make it a place to visit frequently again like I used to. But i think it would take all of us to make it that way again.  |

Ya know, I am with Amanda and Linda here... I am not sure how many posts it is going to take to make people realize that the $5 fee was NOT for making money! It isnt even a drop in the bucket to what G and G pay to run this site. It is NOT about MONEY here. It is about harassment, abuse, and nasty people joining over and over again just to HURT people. It was a sick game with them. Get kicked off one account, create another, and keep on HURTING people.. funny huh? NOT!!!! I remember countless of times that people BEGGED George to turn OFF the JOIN SITE button so that the abuse and harassment would STOP. I remember most of us CRINGING when we logged on and saw the JOIN SITE button on... because we KNEW what to expect then. Then they came up with the FIVE DOLLAR JOIN-UP fee and WALLA!!! Problem solved!!! I applaud whoever's idea that was to do that and YESSSSSSSSSSSSS I would pay to join here and pay to be here if it were about money, but guess what? It isnt, so I dont have to pay. Yep, the joining rate is down down down, but I am thankful for that... I have seen people join at the rate of 200-300 a day, and WHERE are most of them now? Banned of course, because they joined to hurt, abuse and harass... I hope that EVERYONE on USM reads this post and the replies and SEES that it is NOT about MONEY ... it is about LOVE, it is about CARING, it is about having a problem-free environment... The five dollar fee is a GREAT idea and I hope they NEVER stop it so that SOME people cannot just keep making accounts for meanness... Linda and Amanda said it best....  |

I paid $5 to join and before I joined I came to this site daily to read stories. I fully understood why they had a $5 join up fee, it is clearly stated when you click the 'new account' button. I gladly and happily paid the $5 fee and I would do it again if need be. It's nice to come to a site where there are so many caring people (although some debates do get a bit heated. lol) I would probably also pay $5 a year to stay here. But I agree with what others have said, the $5 fee is necessary to weed out the people who just want to harrass others. Peace  |

Insatiable hun, I dont believe anything like that will happen, but with all the bickering about this fee, it could be added as a possibility. People dont seem to realize that with all this questioning, stricter rules may be enforced because basically its like a slam to George and Ginger everytime their motives are questioned. I really dont believe this will happen, but you never know, because when people step on people's kindness too much anything can happen. And I would hate to see that. Thats why I am so adamant on defending this fee. *huge hugs* |

I agree that the fee has done its job. And I have no problem with the lack of new members myself. But I was seeing a trend of people who were saying we should do without the fee altogether and while I understood why, I also understand how the fee is needed. I understand they don't keep the money for themselves...I remember when they were raising money for another member...who need not be mentioned. I have seen how much they do out of the kindness of their hearts (as well as the usm members who help by making donations). I see many people are very...passionate....about this subject. Again, Would I have paid the fee? No...I wouldn't have...and though I don't contribute much to this site I also don't spam others or hurt them..i wjust wouldn't have seen the point. I still think (in most cases) that it takes some loyalty to this site to be willing to fork up the money. It was interesting reading the replies to this post and thank you all for your opinions.
