Rai's heart was pounding. He heaved himself over a barrel and ran as hard as he could. Behind him the pounding of the footsteps of his pursuers rang in his ears.
"The agency said one demon...One, not seven!" He thought as he raced towards the corner of the building. He grabbed his shotgun, turned the corner and twisted his body around to meeting one of his foes. A shot rang out and Rai twisted back around and continued to run. He had heard one scream and fall behind him.
"Ok, you got one...now only six to go." He said to himself. He turned another corner, his foot lost traction and skid. He caught himself from sprawling in the dirt and ran strait into a dead end. His back to the wall he grabbed his two handguns and spun around. The night was silent. His foes were nowhere to be seen. The headlight above him flickered.
"No..." His mind begged. It went out. "Crap." The wind teased at his hair as he waited. Slightly blinded by the loss of light he strained to hear his foes. There was nothing. Demons being immortal creatures were faster, quieter and stronger then him by far, but they tended not to use their powers in the sake of their own twisted "fun." Chasing down prey without using their special gifts was more thrilling. The only way to kill a demon was either a silver bullet or by a silver knife. A hum broke the silence and Rai flinched. The light came back on pouring over him and the dry dirt around him, the dusty earth crunching under his sole as he slid his right foot back. Rai held up his arm to protect his eyes from the bright light. He looked around and frowned.
"Nothing..." He thought as his eyes continued to scann the area. He took a few steps forward and threw himself around the corner. Guns aimed ahead of him, ready to release. There was nothing but the empty thick night air. He rounded the corner again and stopped dead in his tracks.
"Hello." The demon said with a menacing smile. Rai didn't hesitate, he opened fire and in the movement of the immortal the demon dodged and came behind him. Rai was in a chokehold before he realized the devil had moved.
"Struggle and I'll kill you faster." He heard the demons silver voice whisper into his ear. Rai relaxed and wet his lips which have suddenly gone dry. This is not good, my luck just keeps on getting better and better. Out of the shadows another immortal stalked. oh yeah, of course. This man was obviously one that would take no time to think of Rai's good health. His smile made Rai's skin crawl. It only got worse as he slowly came closer. The air moving like water churning in his movements turning into a graceful dance, interrupted by a flash of metal and cloth. The once very alive and dangerous demon now laid a helpless corpse. Kei was atop it her blade biting its flesh.
"What the...?" The demon hold Rai captive grip loosened and Rai elbowed him in the rib and broke free. In the chaos a shot rang out and the fight was over. The demon fell onto his knees then collapsed on the ground. Rai sighed in relief and turned to his sister who was now trying her best to pull her sword out of the corpse. Her face formed in annoyance. Rai caught is breath and said. "Need help?" He said
"Uh...nope I think I got it." She gave a heave and the blade grinded out. She shook her head.
"Where are the other three? There were six more."
"I took care of them when I disconnected the light."
"Oh, so you were the one. Do you mind telling me when you do that. I like to see what I'm doing."
"You did a good job, led them right to were I asked you." Rai nodded and sighed. They began to walk back to their car.
