Keep your computer up to date and less easy to hack *Ad*

For users of Windows from Win98 onwards:-

You may not know this but your computer operating system (Windows) is out of date. Yes that means YOU

Most people do not use the automatic update option introduced in Windows XP and Windows 2000, or the windows update site introduced in Windows 98 (2nd Edition). This site not only upgrades the parts of you Windows system that microsoft releases from time to time, but also installs fixes for problems, and attempts to fill security holes.

This is important if you are on the web, especially to those on broadband and therefore constantly connected to the web, normally with the same IP address all the time.

For those of you running broadband this software takes minutes a week to download and install, that is if there are any fixes or software to install, and it will keep you up to date and error free (mostly).

Those of you running narrow band connections should try to keep your machines up to date also, but it will be less frustrating to buy a web magazine every so often which should have a disc with it that will have the latest updates.

I know that the first time you run this it will be a shock to see that you have 90 things to download, but trust me, it is worth it.

Through this site there is a link to an Office Update site, which works the same way as the windows update site. You will be able to use this if you have Office 97 and above, and you will need the CD you used to install the software to hand, but it does have the service packs and updates for Office 97,98,2000,2002(XP) and 2003 (which isnt out yet, but does have updates, go figure)

How it changed my life:

The PCs in my house run 24/7, with very little problem, or slowdown. Yes they are relatively up-to-date machines, but neither mine, nor LSRs machine have been switched off in a month

Date: 7/23/2003 3:15:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 46530    Me is only win98 with a few graphic tweaks, IE5, media player 8 and very few other tweaks also. It is still a memory nightmare and I wouldn't touch it with a pole if you paid me to do so. Terrible operating system
Date: 7/23/2003 5:04:00 PM  From Authorid: 37101    I tried XP but had horrible luck with it. It seems hit or miss, just depending who you are. Some people hate ME, others like it. Some hate XP, others love it. Just depends who you are, I guess. And also what you're doing with it. -
