The Idle Mind of a Child--by Emi

The idle mind of a child is a rather interesting thing in this world. While we sit there and think that children do not comprehend what is going on around them, sometimes they understand more than we ever could. My mind as a child figured that out, and while most people don't listen, the child is usually right.

I'd have to wonder how a child would act if you were to fight with them constantly. Imagine a tiny little girl looking into your eyes while you got angry and told them they were horrible. And while this little girl does say things back that hurt you too, you immediately put all the blame on them. What is that going to tell the child?

Children live like they have been taught, and old habits are so hard to get rid of. Yet people scream and yell at their child for repeating a habit that they had been taught by those same people. I don't see the logic, but somewhere in those hollow minds of the people, it makes perfect sense.

A child will forgive you for things after a while, as most people will. But wouldn't that child eventually stop coming back to you if you repeat the actions over and over again? It's like they can see nothing will change, therefore, they just stop and go through the motions without much of a thought.

And now I feel like one of those children, sitting down in the chair in living room while my father yelled. And people ask me time after time why I turn or push people away from me all the time. The past is the past, and I know that, and every child knows that. But, you can't really let go of the past completely can you?

If you were to be raped, you would forever want to keep others from having to go through that again. And you also work on making sure you never have to. It's the same for other memories.

In the idle mind of a child, the world would seem wonderful and precious. But now it's clear that the world is neither.

Date: 7/22/2003 9:59:00 PM  From Authorid: 36704    You are a very talented writer. The way you deal with what happened to you, is up to you. There comes a time when you can no longer blame the present on the past or you will never find happiness. Just because a person was victimized doesn't mean they have to live their entire life as a victim. The choice in the end, on how you deal with life, people and circumstances is up to you.
Date: 7/22/2003 10:06:00 PM  From Authorid: 12341    Emi, you have incredible insight. I hope I get to meet you. My babies have never known hurt and sometimes THAT worries me. The other night an older child hit My smallest with a stick and it wasn't because of physical pain that he cried. He cried and sobbed because just being four, no one has been mean to him before. But the world is wonderful and precious because of YOU and my baby Christopher, you each make a difference. You do. Others care and love you, just for being you. ANd that is wonderful. It is.
