Yes they can; why do you think people have their wisdom teeth taken out in the first place? Probably the sooner you do it the better. |

Well, I thought that was the reason but I know a woman in her 50's who has never had hers out and her teeth are perfect. I feel a little silly now. |

everyone is different. Some people can live their whole lives and never have them out, some can't. It depends on the size of your teeth in comparison to your jaw. Like me, for instance, I have large Marie Osmand type teeth, but a very small jaw. I didn't have room for my wisdom teeth. I had them out when I was 18. I went under because I was afraid of the pain. It was alright, not too bad. I had a friend who didn't get his teeth out, and it crowded his back teeth so badly that it shattered the molars next to the wisdom teeth, and he had pieces of teeth coming out for a long time, it took him like 2 years to finally get the courage to have his teeth removed and by then he had to have 8 teeth removed because all the molars next to his wisdom teeth were ruined. So listen to your dentist, if he says you need to have them out, then you most likely NEED to have them out! Don't be afraid of the pain, it's better to have 4 teeth removed than 8....or to have to wear braces to correct your teeth from getting crooked from your wisdom teeth crowding your regular teeth. Take care, peace |

Well it depends on the size of your teeth and the size of your mouth. I'm 19 and haven't gotten my wisdom teeth yet. But my dentist told me since my teeth were small I should have no problem with them. |

I'm 29 and mine are just now coming in. It's very painful and I can feel them pushing all my other teeth forward. It can damage them. I'm scared to get mine taken out too, but it doesn't sound like we have a choice hugs, |

Yes, they can damage your other teeth as they do the crowding and crack the enamel. I had mine taken out but not before some damage was done to the other teeth. My son had his removed, all four wisdom teeth at once when he was 16 and they just used a local pain shot on him. My daughter got hers also removed. It's best to follow your dentist's advice, Honey. |

I don't know about damage as my top ones came through nicely but for a while now my bottom ones have been poking through my gums and I get a little jaw ache in, particularly the right side area. I hope they don't have to come out. The ache is bearable but surgery would be a nightmare. I have two children to care for, one of whom is disabled and I don't have a network of support. |

Even though the dentists call it oral surgery, it isn't as bad in my opinion as that. Part of the fear I think is just the words dentist and surgery. Within a couple of days I was feeling pretty good and I even drove myself home from the dentists when I had my wisdom teeth removed. I think in the long run the removal is the best action and well worth it. Best wishes. |

I had all 4 of mine taken out at one sitting. I didn't feel much like talking after but I went home and put in a skylight. Overall, it wasn't that bad an experience. I think people tend to exagerate how painful it is . |

They can definitely damage your other teeth. Mine kind of came in over night, at least it seemed that way. I had all mine taken out at once and I opted for the IV as well. It was SO cool! I don't remember anything, besides the dentist saying "you are going to feel sleepy now". My insurance did cover it. Also all of mine were impacted. It wasn't THAT painful. Don't get me wrong it hurt, but I didn't feel like I was going to die from it, they had me on really good meds for the pain. All together my bill from the dentist office was around $500 for all four. Good Luck! *Brown Eyed Angel* |

Yes they can. When my son still had his braces on, they did xrays and found out that he had 7 wisdom teeth (yes, SEVEN!) and they had to come out immediately. I had alot of trouble with mine too. They caused me alot of pain and they were all impacted, which means that the roots were wrapped around the bone. I had to have them all cut out, it was not a fun thing to go thru. Good luck! |
