AWARDS!!! ... .... ... How to get them???? ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... *Gail*

AWARDS???? Sick of hearing about them? lol... Well so am I to a certain extent, at least I am SICK to death of hearing the whining about them, lol..

I was on a Yahoo Conference last night with a few people that I had never really talked to, and we spent the better part of an hour talking about Awards. I then realized that SOME people just dont get the premise behind the Awards, nor the reasons Admins give them out.

So here is my two cents, and I invite YOUR 2 cents too:

Do you have an Award? Two? Three? More? Well good if you do, but if you dont, then maybe instead of getting upset or angry and BLAMING the Admins for it them ask yourself what YOU are doing to deserve an award. Awards are GIVEN freely by 40+ Admins a week, and they search, yes SEARCH for people who "Stand Out" and who DESERVE to be recognized. It is a hard task for anyone to undertake here on the site... but they do it, and what do they get in return? They get FLACK from some of the users BLAMING Them for finding a deserving person to AWARD and REWARD!!!! How fair is that?

If you want an AWARD, ..... I mean TRULY Want one... then go the extra mile, do things for OTHERS, be nice, give of yourself, and before you know it.. WALLA! YOU WILL BE NOTICED :):):)

USM is a city, of sorts. Think of it that way. NO it isnt necessarily CANDYLAND but the law here is just as strict as the law in Real Life. Thing is, they are strict about the WRITTEN word. They have to uphold the G-Rating that we all have grown to love so well, and the LAST thing these hard-working Admins need is to be continually put down for thier efforts. And when speaking of the Awards.. something GIVEN by the Admins from their hearts, then in my opinion it is just a little over the edge. Something which is given out of LOVE has now turned into a HATE issue... how sad is that?????

If you are guilty of this, please, please, please take a few minutes to really think and UNDERSTAND what these remarkable people actually do for us.

THEY VOLUNTEER HOURS and HOURS and HOURS a week of their time to keep our site running smoothly and to keep the rating what it needs to me. They are always nice and respectful, even in light of their very own frustrations. They were CHOSEN ... maybe I should say HAND CHOSEN by the Creators of this site to aid in running a site for friendship, love and understanding.

People who do soooooooooooooooooo much for us should deserve at least our respect and even more. They just dont need to be blamed because YOU dont have an award!!!! Blame yourself first and SEE why you dont, then maybe you have the right to write a message to the admin about it... but ONLY IF you think you have gone the extra mile, and have upheld USM for what it was created for.. for what it means.. and the way our dear friends, George and Ginger INTENDS for it to be...

*hops off soap-box*...

Love,

Gail

Date: 7/20/2003 3:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 23796    LOL Gail. Better pass that soap box around I responded to a post about Awards as well. I got one and I didn't expect it but felt blessed that someone thought I deserved it. It takes the time and energy of someone who DOESN'T have to do it. I'm happy with the one I got If I get more, Then so be it. IF not, So be it. I'm Just happy to be part of the site
Date: 7/20/2003 3:20:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 30229    You are very welcome Lord Ox... Just that I get so tired of complainers complaining they dont have an AWARD when all they have to do is WORK for one. Awards should NOT be given to people JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE MEMBERS here.. they should be given because they are EARNED.. ya know? Thanks for the reply
Date: 7/20/2003 3:22:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 30229    Yayyy! Good for you LadyShaman!!! I can see WHY you got the award.. I have been reading some of your posts today.. (will reply later, was too busy while scanning) ... you deserve it, and even more... key word being DESERVE Thank you for your reply
Date: 7/20/2003 3:22:00 PM  From Authorid: 56293    I've never gotten award, and I'm not complaining! I would rather receive an award under the circumstances that I DESERVE one! Not because I want one. Great Post Gail!

Date: 7/20/2003 3:23:00 PM  From Authorid: 55297    hmmmm.... nice points Gail. Although i do have to say, I am a very shy one. maybe they should have a shy award for the most shy... *blushes* im very shy. i do help people, but i cannot say that i stand out. so i guess i dont need an award, just getting MSG's that say "thanks for helping" or "thanks for praying for me" is award-enough for me... i love USM and all of its people... *blushes* I'm done now...
Date: 7/20/2003 3:23:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 30229    I am going to have to leave for a while to run some errands, ... Date: 7/20/2003 3:36:00 PM  From Authorid: 49689    Good Job Gail! I hope that this does open the eyes of some people,Yes they're are 38 Admins and "Normally" the rule is 1 award can be given per week...I know a few Admins have a list of people that truely do deserve awards, and are slowly getting then to those people...What some of these people that are upset about not having recieved an award may not realize is that YES they are on an Admins list to recieve one, they just need to have a little patience...Also of those 38 Admins I know of a couple who haven't been active on the site for a few months,so that knocks the number down, close to 35 I believe, not to mention I'm sure that not all of the Admins even give out awards, except in special circumstances
Date: 7/20/2003 3:39:00 PM  From Authorid: 46527    I have 4 awards, I for writing, one for being nice (that was a BIG surprise!), one for being 'nippable' and one lovely award for the Junkies site. All I can say is that I have worked for hundreds and hundreds of hours on that site, and whenever I get to feeling cross about anything that happens with it I just go look at that little picture and it makes it all worth it..
Date: 7/20/2003 3:40:00 PM  From Authorid: 55297    USM is my family! and an MSG is awesome any day! so, why do i need and award if i get MSG's that make me feel just as good? i dont. but if i do ever get one, i hope that it will me one of an animated MSG sign... :P
Date: 7/20/2003 3:57:00 PM  From Authorid: 36766    I have 1 award and I'm happy w/ just that one, I'm still amazed that I have it...very good post
Date: 7/20/2003 4:30:00 PM  From Authorid: 25390    You tell 'em Gail! LOL
Date: 7/20/2003 4:32:00 PM  From Authorid: 53900    I agree I have one award and I never expected to receive that one I help anyone I possibly can. When I logged on a little over a month ago I was totally shcked to have the award on my profile but it really brightened up my day regardless though with or without it the people I have met on this site the ability to share my feelings without being judged and having a place to turn when I am feeling hurt or stressed or even happy is worth more then 100 awards. That is what those people who dont have an award should realize in my opinion
Date: 7/20/2003 4:34:00 PM  From Authorid: 61996    I love to look at the awards page & all of the graphics. Its a shame that people think they deserve an award. They should just be happy for others
Date: 7/20/2003 4:52:00 PM  From Authorid: 33517    I Agree with you 110% Gail..**Big Canadian Hugs**
Date: 7/20/2003 5:09:00 PM  From Authorid: 30986    Gail, I agree with you here. It seems people think the more they complain about not having one, the faster someone will just plop one of them in their profiles. I think it wouldn't be worth the time that particular admin spent making it if that were done. Handing them out willy nilly would make them not so important, ya know. Good post.
Date: 7/20/2003 5:11:00 PM  From Authorid: 29262    I totally agree with Gail. I do have one award. I also come on this site almost every time I get online, I support people, and I am just proud to be a part of this site for so long. I've been here for about 2-3 years and I just got one. I never complained I just wondered to myself and thought just be yourself. Thats how I got my award. And for all of you that dont have an award, Dont stress be yourself You will get one soon enough The more you bug the admins about it you'll just dig your hole deeper. You have to EARN the award by being yourself.
Date: 7/20/2003 5:56:00 PM  From Authorid: 61966    I'm not putting my two sense in because I would be repeating the same thing you are saying!! Amen to you Gail!! I have two awards and I never even expected to get either one, they both came by suprise to me. If I didn't have any awards I'd be just as happy with USM cause its not all about the awards!! It's a gift anyway, not something that everyone HAS to have.
Date: 7/20/2003 6:02:00 PM  From Authorid: 53427    Ok I'm gonna be in the minority here, but I disagree to an extent. There are many people deserving of an award who are overlooked and its easy to say "go out and earn it". But like Heaven said, many good deeds are behind the scenes. Its not really the admins fault, they can't notice everybody. But, I know some people have hurt feelings about this and I think their feelings are justified. I don't really like the awards system and thats my opinion. BTW, I do have an award and I am thankful for it. But at the same time, I'm sure there are people on USM who haven't received one who are more deserving of one than myself.
Date: 7/20/2003 6:23:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 30229    snookums, no one should have their feelings hurt if they arent willing to go an EXTRA mile to deserve an Award. I noted what Heaven said, and may even send it in on suggestions... that maybe the upper level Admins,... those who can read profiles can SEEEEEEE who is helping and who is going the extra mile with people and they can decide from that... I agree with you that not everyone is as big mouthed as me, lol... but thing is, even SILENT people can stand out, they just have to search inside themselves and find that special something to project... I know a few VERY shy people who do other things for their recognition, so it is just as doable as the vocal ones... ANYTHIN WORTH IT IS DOABLE
Date: 7/20/2003 6:26:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 30229    Wow, some GREAT replies here!!! Thank you all so much.. I was hoping someone, besides ME could see that AWARDS needed to be EARNED and not just GIVEN because they are on site.. People in life do NOT automatically GET stuff.. it has to be earned. Your boss isnt going to give you a paycheck until you EARN it... a School doesnt give scholorships unless they are EARNED!!! It is people who go the EXTRA MILE that deserves Awards.. pure and simple. I think the Admins are MORE than fair when they give them, only thing I can see wrong, is that we need one to monitor profile to find those 'hidden' stars among us..
Date: 7/20/2003 6:27:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 30229    Heaven, I love to see my blinky flashing too! It is always a good feeling to have a MSG
Date: 7/20/2003 8:56:00 PM  From Authorid: 24732    It gets easier and easier for people to agree with posts like this the more awards they have. Sure I like the ones I have, but I usually don't pay attention to them, because some of them remind me of the awards given to kids in grade school just so everyone could have an award. However, some people do deserve a some recognition for writing worthy posts and I suppose the admins enjoy giving them out; so in that sense they serve their purpose.
Date: 7/21/2003 2:04:00 AM  From Authorid: 26452    I agree with you 100%, I am an admin, and I do not give someone an award unless I think they truly deserve it. But sometimes the problem is, I dont know someone good enough to really know what to say in an award. But I do give awards for other people lol, like if someone messages me telling me they think someone deserves an award, and why, then I will give that person an award, saying whatever the other person wanted it to say etc.
Date: 7/21/2003 8:10:00 AM  From Authorid: 47296    Very good points Gail. Although I have recieved 3 awards, I never write to try and get awards. I always write with my heart. The biggest award I get though is when I can help someone to understand that regardless of who or what we are, we are all equeals, and should be afforded the same rights.
Date: 7/21/2003 7:08:00 PM  From Authorid: 28125    Awesome Mom...What a great post...I totally applaud you on stepping on your soapbox...sometimes we need a good post like this...Way 2 Go...I am standing in agreement about this one...I wanted awards...but when I got them I was totally shocked...it's a nice bonus to this site...Thanks for this post...Love you Lots...Big Hugs...ICL~*~*~*~
Date: 7/21/2003 7:47:00 PM  From Authorid: 21867    ...it matters not to me...though of course I certainly cherish the two I have...I don't come to USM for awards...I come not to receive glory, but to receive (and hopefully provide) understanding... Peace,
Date: 7/22/2003 8:26:00 PM  From Authorid: 56489    AMEN, well said Gail!
Date: 8/11/2003 12:42:00 AM  From Authorid: 34810    boy to tell you how out of it I have been....I, of all people I never thought of ever getting one. I had no clue they were giving them out when one day I had one. Talk about blowing my mind....lol. I found out the reason I got mine was for all the helpful advise I was giving from my own B of S books handed down from my family. I thought what good is knowledge if it is not shared? Little did I know what help it has been. I thank the admin that thought I deserve the award. It makes me feel good for all the hard work I put in to my post. Great Post dear, and all that read this and still blame the admins, then you need to really think about what you have posted, is it just babble or have you touch someone’s soul. Blessed be my dear friends.
