title: "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle"
starring: Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, Lucy Liu, Demi Moore, Bernie Mac, Crispin Glover, John Cleese, Matt LeBlanc, Luke Wilson, cameos from the Olsen Twins, Pink, Eve
genre: action
The doctor ordered plenty of testosterone for our feature, "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle." The problem is, he doesn't dictate the right amount. What could of been a hot-to-trot sequel quickly burns out with overwhelming implausibility, and a nauseating fetish for slo-mo action. Cameron, Lucy, and Drew, are back as Natalie, Alex, and Dylan, respectively, and these three gals are gung-ho with caffeinated excitement. Their nemesises, a fallen angel (Moore), an Irish punk, and "the creepy thin man"(Glover), all squeeze themselves into the film, each vying for the top villanous cretin. This gives the Angel's excuses to do what the audience wants them to do: mega martial arts, slo-mo motorcycling, tank-driving antics, and even more stunts, that are so lodged in fashioned ridiculousness that they'd make James Bond look blatantly babyish. Director McG seems to be infatuated with loud-mouthed action (I was a fan of his now-canceled "Fastlane"), and he seems to be on the verge of plasticized direction. Bernie Mac as the new Bosley is a plus in the cast; his wise-cracking persona make for some of the funniest bits. The weak plot centers around two rings which have data containing the names of Witness Protection Program participants, and the Angels must retrieve the accessories back before they're sold to the wrong people. This mission leaves time for several unnecessary dance numbers, struck up in between danger and gun-play. While "Full Throttle" might have luck with unproportioned sexuality and hijiinks, it overheats it's engine with too many tricks. Grade: C+
