This poem offends me because of the simple fact that these people are coming to our country many from HORRIBLE conditions. They do not get every thing for free although many do many of them work very hard to get what they have. Many people in our country are on welfare who have lived here for all their lives. I just think it is sad that people have to spread such hate  |

I'm sorry if this offends anyone but remember you choose to take offense I am not giving it intentionally. But this poem pretty much says it like it is. I have seen neighborhoods that have hard-working American citizens in modest homes with one care trying their best to bring in enough income to raise their families, and next door is an immigrant with 4 nice cars and they are builing onto their houses making them bigger and nicer to accomodate their families moving in all on money the government gives them. I'm sorry yes they are coming from horrible conditions but when does it become American responsibility to make their lives cush...and why is it that the American citizens have to work harder than ever for their buck. I'm not saying no immigrants, I'm only making an observation on how this poem tells it like it is. Peace.  |

The last line: "If they no like us, they can scram, Got lots of room in Pakistan. " says it all. Some here have missed the point.. it is NOT helping people that is the complaint, it is helping people who hate us, who want to see us dead, who just wants what they can get for us to breed more hate. This is a horribly true story here, and until people stop to SEE what is going on, I am afraid that more 9/11's will happen... we give them the money for it.. sad huh? And this is to every single person out there grabbing the hand-outs and breeding their hatred... jmo.  |

Gee that was just tooooo long. I suspect it was written by some bigoted, racist. America was built by immigrants, but it's so easy to forget this. Also I don't know why it was directed particularly at Pakistanis as the major immigrant population now is mainly poor hispanics. Pakistanis usually have some professional skill when they emigrate, like medicine.  |

Koolade, you bring up good points. I wish I knew who wrote it. By posting this, I'm not saying that I agree with every word of it. I'm just saying that our country needs welfare reform big time. Magenta, I posted this because I was curious how other people felt about the welfare system and the fact that some immigrants (and Americans as well) abuse it. I have reread the poem several times since I posted it and I can see how it is offence to some people. It is very racist. A lot of Americans feel the way the person who wrote this does though and I was just wanting to find out how people on USM feel about the whole situation. |

I think welfare systems all over the world need to be reworked. As for the immigrant aspect, bah! I see a ton of very hard working immigrants who are not afraid to take on the jobs that those who have lived here forever think are beneath them. I agree with the hatred aspect, many people have hates against the country that they have chosen to live in, if they don't like it..go home.  |

ok...this poem is offensive, not only to americans..but to foreigners as well. some people that came from places like loas or vietname lived off of welfare for a short time. we contributed to their homeland problems and the ones i see now, work their butts off to have what they have. the same with illegal mexican people. I have more respect for these people that come from a harsh land with the american dream on their minds not the welfare system. this poem sounds like something that was written by that white man in the poem who moves. this is rather discusting. americans abuse their own system more than any illegals do and this poem is prejudice, not something that makes one ponder. |

The poem is offensive but I do have to agree with parts of it. Although welfare was created to put people back on their feet some just abuse it and live better than those who break their backs working everyday. Sure, it's noble to help but I think the system needs to have more control so that the money goes to those who really need it.  |

Yes, some of those people you are referring to DOES have Medical degrees, but guess who paid for them??? Proven facts here, WE paid for it. And no one has even brought up about the GOVERNMENT of the USA gives TAX BREAKS to the people who own Motels and Convenience Stores,... HUGE ones at that, in fact, probably NO tax structures at all, THAT is why they can sell Ciggies cheaper than American Vendors... another proven fact. AND the Motels and Convenience Stores are puchased FOR them by our Government... So we give, give give.. yep, I know a lot of people who are aliens here in the US who work their buns off, they are great people... and they dont WANT any harm to come to us or to themselves, but we still have to face the facts that if YOU, Mr./Ms. USA wants a Convenience Store, a Motel or a Medical Degree, you have to pay for it yourself... Cold Facts, was in all the major Newspapers SEVERAL times since 9/11... Maybe it isnt called WELFARE, but it is still FREE Services for them... |

I dont see lots of folks from other countries abusing our welfare system. Its the ones already here. People who can work and will not. I know where a whole apartment complex is and most of these people are able to work and will not. I for one am sick of being held at gun point by the IRS while the steal my hard earned money. The welfare system needs reform! It should be operated by private interest with no politics involved.  |

I know people that are on welfare and get but $600.00 dolars a month.Then they get food stamp for $ 150.00 a month and barely getting by.This is the people i gave a van to.You can't just believed what you hear or see online when it comes to immigrant.I truly feel for them.They work so hard for little money and try to get by everysingle day.I don't believed their getting rich off of the Government.I don't believed this at all.I helped so many immigrants and giving them donations from time to time......Much love and God Bless...  |
