it's not healthy, but i can't bring myself to disapprove
and this will be the poem that doesn't write itself
or get sent to her by e-mail
or read aloud in a yard of oblivious peers
because i have REAL feelings
and regardless of what i've said
or what anyone believes
those very REAL feelings will not be DENIED
i want to know how you can hope kiss her like I did,
as if she were unique
as if my whole life became three measly letters
that suddenly lost meaning as our eyes closed
how can you dream of matching that?
how can you defeat such passion by parading around your history
in its sunday best while merely tragic at its core
when the significance of those kisses was as mud finally clinging to the wall
and i'm sorry to blow up like that;
i really think you're a standup guy,
what, with your emerging drug habit
and total lack of a spine
