Wishin' Her Well Writers: Doug Supernaw/Justin White
A pocket full of wishes A well down below This ain't the first time That I've stood here and thrown But ol' George ain't been too lucky And I've lost faith in Honest Abe Cause all I know is they ain't made good On one wish that I've made
So now I'm wishin' her well Hopin' that she's alright And wishin' that I was one who was holdin' her tonight But if she's made up her mind Then I'm just makin' a fool of myself But there goes a dime Cause I'm wishin' her well A quarter hits the bottom A wish that won't come true There's at least a thousand faces
Staring up through the blue I wouldn't give you a nickel For any chance I've got So I'll just flip it off my finger And watch it float down to the rocks
Cause now I'm wishin' her well Hopin' that she's alright Wishin' that I was the one who was holdin' her tonight But if she's made up her mind Then I'm just makin' a fool of myself Yes there goes a dime Cause I'm wishin' her well
Shut'er Down Writers: Doug Supernaw/Justin White
Parkview used to be just on the outside of town Now it's right in the middle of a city that's grown all round it And the old folks there just sit and stare at the walls Except for one crazy old man standin' there preachin' in the halls
His old friend died last week so they let him go And his eyes teared up when nobody pulled to the shoulder And some punks drove by and yelled as he stood at the casket And he cussed this world that had gone to hell in a basket
So he walked downtown with his cane pole Looking through the window of what used to be the drugstore Next to the cafe where he laughed away his life He heads on down to the fishin' hole and dreams about his hero Who took him there when he was three years old Same spot every day but don't need no bait cause it's dry
Yes it's true that he's not quite all there but who cares Neither are the values that he's lived by for 90 years Just like his home town He's about to shut her down
My views used to be just like those kids in that car Until I woke up one day thanks to a switch in the yard Now the old man's gone but his thoughts are livin' in me About the way this damned 'ol world is supposed to be
So I walked downtown with his cane pole Looking through the window of what used to be the drugstore Next to the cafe where he laughed away his life Head on down to the fishin' hole and dream about my hero Who took me there when I was three years old Same spot every day but don't need no bait cause it's dry Yes it's true that I'm not quite all there but who cares Neither are the values that he taught me in 30 years
Just like his home town He just had to shut her down
And just like his home town He just finally shut her down
Not Enough Hours In The Night Writers: Aaron Barker/Kim Williams/Rob Harbin
Sometimes I wish there were no windows in this room The sun comes pouring through those curtains Way too soon Reminding me it's time to rise and shine But you look so good lying there In that old T-shirt of mine
Chorus: There's not enough hours in the night Not enough time to hold you tight How time flies when you are in love We lay down and the sun comes up I wish that I could set that clock To moonlight saving time When it comes to loving you And steal an hour from the day
They say two people just can't live on love alone But girl, if we die trying, what a way to go I think I'll call in and say I'm running late Hang a blanket on the window And steal an hour from the day
(Chorus)
I wish that I could set that clock To moonlight saving time Cause when it comes down to loving you There's not enough hours in the night
Roots and Wings Writers: Skip Ewing/Bill Anderson
A Mamma watched her baby fall and bump his head Taking baby steps across the floor She could have tried to catch him but a voice inside her said In the long run that will only hurt him more But she picked me up and told me that she loved me And she held me and she made me feel secure And I grew to understand what real love means And what it takes for two hearts to endure
Chorus: Roots and wings To my ship you are the lighthouse on the shore And I'm a kite on your string Your love is my anchor in the storm And a part of me stays grounded So the rest of me can fly Only 'cause you are My roots and wings
A Daddy kissed his baby and then he fixed her veil Took her arm and walked her down the aisle When the preacher asked him who gives this child away He said "me" and did his best to smile Now you call him every weekend and you tell him That you love him and you're thankful as can be That his firm hand and his soft heart were a blessing And the reason you can give the gift to me (of)
Roots and wings To my ship you are the lighthouse on the shore And I'm a kite on your string Your love is my anchor in the storm And a part of me stays grounded So the rest of me can fly Only 'cause you are My roots and wings
Some say love's a circle Some say love's a light Some say love's a river I don't know who's right But this I know for certain This I know for truth The secret to forever For me and you is...
Roots and wings To my ship you are the lighthouse on the shore And I'm a kite on your string Your love is my anchor in the storm And a part of me stays grounded So the rest of me can fly Only 'cause you are My roots and wings
I'm lucky that you are my roots and wings
Roots and wings To my ship you are the lighthouse on the shore And I'm a kite on your string Your love is my anchor in the storm And a part of me stays grounded So the rest of me can fly Only 'cause you are My roots and wings
He Went To Paris Writer: Jimmy Buffett
He went to Paris looking for answers to the questions that bothered him so He was impressive, young and aggressive saving the world on his own The warm summer breezes and French wine and cheeses Put his ambitions at bay Summers and Winters scattered like splinters and 4 to 5 years slipped away
He went to England played the piano and married an actress named Kim They had a good life she was a fine wife and bore him a young son named Jim All of the answers to most of the questions locked in his attic some day But he liked the quiet clean country living and 20 more years skipped away
Solo:
The war took his baby the bombs killed his lady and left him with only one eye His body was battered his whole world was shattered and All he could do was just cry While the tears were falling he was recalling the answers that he never found Hopped on a freighter skated the ocean and left England without a sound
Now he lives in the islands fishes the pilings and drinking his Green label each day Writing his memoirs losing his hearing but he don't care what most people say After 86 years of perpetual motion if he likes you he'll smile and say Some of it's magic some of it's tragic but I had a good life all the way He went to Paris looking for answers to the questions that bothered him so
The Note Writers: Buck Moore/Michelle Ray
The note was short, but Lord so strong It simply said, "I can't go on And live a lie with someone I don't love" She couldn't tell me face to face Oh but how my world was changed By the hand that held the pen That wrote the words, that broke the heart Of the one, the one that really loves her
My tears fell down, like falling rain But they can't wash away the pain How will I go to sleep without her in my arms She never meant to break my heart But how my world was torn apart By the hand that held the pen That wrote the words, that broke the heart Of this one, the only one that really loves her
With one stroke of the pen she wrote off all my dreams Erasing all the plans we made together I am the one that is to blame Oh, but how my world was changed By the hand that held the pen That wrote the words, that broke the heart Oh the one, the only one that really loves her
