A Love Denied (Why is the world so hungry for money?) ¤Frankenstein¤

I have loved to play billiards for as long as I can remember. When I was a kid, one of my uncles had a pool table and he kept it in my granny's garage. I would pester dad to go there often so that I could shoot. I did so for hours and hours and I became quite good at it. I even taught myself some trick shots. You never know when one might come in handy. For example, let's say that you're playing someone in a game of eight-ball and you only have one ball left on the table. It's sitting right in front of a pocket but one of their balls is right in front of it. Don't think that you don't have a shot because you do. I found that by pointing the cue almost straight up and clipping the cue ball sharply on the very side, it's possible to make it jump right over your opponent's ball and sink yours into the pocket without scratching.

I loved that table but he finally ended up selling it for some reason. He never used it and I guessed he just wanted the money. I was lost after that. I had nowhere to shoot because I didn't know anyone else with a table. I wasn't old enough to get into the downtown pool hall and I wouldn't have wanted to, anyway. In the late seventies, video games became popular and game rooms opened up all over town. I frequented a couple of them but I seldom played pool. There was much demand for the tables and it was just too noisy.

In the mid-eighties, I moved into a very nice apartment complex which was quite expensive. There were all of the amenities which one would expect at that price. There were tennis and basketball courts, a swimming pool, a laundry room and best of all...a pool table in the clubhouse. I worked a lot of long days at my store at that time but I spent many hours shooting pool there. I never minded doing so by myself because it just helped me to keep getting better and better. That made the actual games that I did occasionally get to play more interesting and I was a more worthy opponent for anyone. Dad liked to come over and shoot a few games sometimes and it was always a lot of fun.

I was lucky enough to accidentally run across an online billiard game about a year or so ago and it was enjoyable to me but it just wasn't the same. It was all I had, though, so I was happy to have it. Somehow, it got deleted and now, I can't find it again. I'll keep trying, though.

A couple of months ago, I found an online game called Couronne and it's a lot like pool. Instead of balls, you have disks and instead of six pockets, there are only four. Other than that, it's practically the same game. They took it off of the site for a few weeks with a promise that it would be back new and improved. I waited patiently and, when it was finally back, I couldn't wait to check it out. Imagine my disappointment when I learned that they now want to charge for it. I've played the demo version which has a short time limit and it's exactly as it was before they took it off with the promise of something better. The only difference is that now they call it Couronne 'Deluxe' and they want to charge a fee for me to play it as much as I want to. It isn't better for anyone except for the owners of the site. I understand that people need to make a living but why is it that so many seem to be so obsessed with the almighty dollar. I could give you many, many examples of this but I won't do it here and now.

You see, I've never lived at any place where I had the room for a pool table of my own. They're quite expensive, too. My dream is to, one day, have one and, if I have a refrigerator stocked with beer and a bathroom there in that den, I doubt that anyone will ever see me again unless they're a close friend and they want to come over to talk or shoot a few games. I'll be able to do that as soon as I can come up with the cash. See? It all boils down to money. The difference between me and many, though, is that I'm not willing to do whatever it takes to get it. I'm not out to rob anyone like so many are on these sites and in real life, as well. Hey, maybe one day... A guy can always dream.

I can't practise proporly on it...I want a big and beautiful one like they have in the shop joined to my Music Lessons. But I can't. The thing I love the most...I can't have. Why? Because it's so expensive
Date: 6/21/2003 3:54:00 PM  From Authorid: 40530    Or a saxophone that didn't squeak. Don't get me wrong, I love my sax, but she squeaks on some notes. It's annoying, and I have a Grade 2 exam coming up. What if they deduct points for squeaking??
Date: 6/21/2003 3:55:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 47699    Amy, it seems that we're sort of in the same boat. Like I said, maybe someday we'll have the objects of our desire. In the meantime, we can always dream.
Date: 6/21/2003 3:56:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 47699    Squeaking, Amy? That isn't the sax. It's the way it's being played (or tortured). LMAO!
Date: 6/21/2003 3:58:00 PM  From Authorid: 44321    We would love to have a car,a good reliable one to travel back and forth to see his mom in Iowa(driving is loads cheaper than airfare),but that takes alot of money that we do not have.So yeah money is behind alot of dreams that some of us might not see.

Date: 6/21/2003 4:07:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 47699    Mary, I know exactly what you mean. We no longer have a car, either, due to recent unfortunate occurrances. All wounds heal in time, though. I've lived long enough to know that for a fact. Hang in there because, as dark as it might seem now, it does and will get better. It always does. It's just a matter of time.
Date: 6/21/2003 4:10:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 47699    I know what you mean, PL. I'm in the same boat right now. 'Author only', thank you so much! I love you, sis! I hope you're having a good weekend.

Date: 6/21/2003 6:10:00 PM  From Authorid: 54987    Well you said it Frank - 'It all boils down to money'. We don't have to live that way... you buy into that way of thinking. We don't do enough for other people. There's always an angle. If I really knew that a pool table would really make you happy Frank, I'd send you the money right now. However, it wouldn't. Don't wait to be happy... choose it now. A nice story Frank and it has a moral to it. If you think you need more money, then you will always need more money. Forget about the money. Imagine that pool table... imagine you playing on it. Eventually I am sure your dream will come true. But happiness? That doesn't need anything to exist. Thanks for the good post.
Date: 6/21/2003 6:36:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 47699    Thank you, Koolade.
Date: 6/21/2003 9:43:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 47699    'Author only', that's really funny. The address you gave me took me to a swimming pool site. LOL! Thanks, anyway. :O
Date: 6/21/2003 10:10:00 PM  From Authorid: 22721    I'm sure that you will own your own pool table someday.
Date: 6/21/2003 11:57:00 PM  From Authorid: 53558    I would love a new fridge freeze, but hubby say the old one is still good.
Date: 6/22/2003 5:14:00 AM  From Authorid: 40530    *glares at you* Humph! I'll have you know that there are no squeaks of pain coming frommy sax when I play it! (The squeaks of pain are coming from the poor souls who listen to it....)
Date: 6/22/2003 9:56:00 PM  From Authorid: 36901    Frank, have you ever played games on pogo.com? I know you use AOL, so you don't even have to sign up. Just go to Keyword: pogo and you're ready to go. They have at least one pool game there. I've never played it, but Danny loves it. Might be worth a few minutes to you to check it out. They have other games there you might enjoy as well. You can even win money on some of them. BTW...It's all free.
Date: 6/22/2003 10:00:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 47699    Thank you, Apryl. I appreciate that and I'll check into it for sure. You're a good friend.
