Yes they can if the object carries negative (or positive but they are more drawn to negative) energies. Like if it was a special object to them and they die, or if someone in the house hates the object and directs negative energy towards it they will be drawn to it. There are many different forms of hauntings and we don't even know the half of it. Peace.  |

I think they can 'inhabit' an object like 62085 said but they cant posess an object because it doesnt have a mind to be posessed. But i think your Aunt's dog was just fascinated by this 'object' for some reason. Im not saying it werent inhabited but it just seems unlikely.  |
