Some People Have Some Pretty Darned Strange Ideas ¤Frankenstein¤

A marriage between two donkeys has been performed in southern India in the hope it will bring much needed rain.

Residents of Magadi, a Bangalore suburb, gathered at a temple dedicated to elephant-headed god, Ganesh, to marry the donkeys.

A Hindu priest read from the scriptures and anointed the animals with vermillion, turmeric and sandal-paste while married women garlanded the donkeys.

The donkeys were taken in a procession through the city's streets and a feast was served to the guests.

The bride, called Ganga, wore a green sari with a glittering gold border while the groom, Varuna, was clad in a white dhoti.

***Maybe it's just me but I find this whole thing sort of sacrelious. It's ludicrous and borderline obscene. That's the way I see it. It never fails to amaze me how moronic some people can be. Have they no schools of any kind in India? How they can really be so uneducated, in this day and age is beyond me. Yeah, this is really going to make it rain. Maybe I'll marry a chicken and see if that makes my eyes feel any better.

Date: 6/18/2003 3:34:00 PM  From Authorid: 44321    People over here have dog marriages for the heck of it. I am just glad they are not marrying people to the donkeys like that one post I read here where they married a street dog to a child to prevent bad luck all I can say is what a world.

Date: 6/18/2003 3:42:00 PM  From Authorid: 53927    I think it's funny too but it's their custom and i don't know if moronic is the right word.
Date: 6/18/2003 4:24:00 PM  From Authorid: 51565    well frankie its the culture of the area. I mean even though you find it horrid, they find what you do horrid. dont judge others frankie, or you might be the one being judged.

Date: 6/18/2003 4:49:00 PM  From Authorid: 62196    Why are you calling there beliefs stupid? Have they insulted yours?
Date: 6/18/2003 4:55:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 47699    Well, SS, I have nothing against Indian people at all. I just find it incredibly stupid that they think that marrying animals can do anything to change the weather. As I said, I would go so far and to say that it's sacreligious. This is 2003, not 1400. I think the heat there must be messing with their brains. It isn't my job to judge anyone but I still make my own observations about things.
Date: 6/18/2003 6:05:00 PM  From Authorid: 35720    LoL.. makes you wonder WHERE in the world they get these ideas..

Date: 6/19/2003 8:15:00 AM  From Authorid: 24673    There must have been a lot of donkey marriages around here, because it's been raining nearly everyday this spring! Hee, hee, cute post.
Date: 6/19/2003 8:56:00 AM  From Authorid: 61353    I love India it's one of my fav countries. Anything weird out of the ordinary I love lol . Anyway I think what they believe in keeps this place (earth) interesting , would be pretty boring otherwise if everyone believed in the same idea's
Date: 6/19/2003 10:41:00 AM  From Authorid: 23319    They have schooling in India! This is just a simple belief. India's people are very religous and this is what they believe in so let them be! I hope the donkeys live a great life together and I hope it rains too considering they have a huge drought over there. If you want to marry a chicken, go ahead.

Date: 6/19/2003 10:46:00 AM  From Authorid: 23319    Rika, they might get their ideas from the word of Allah. Ever think that these people think we're crazy? I mean just crap like gay and lesbian marriages...a dear friend of mine in India thinks it's crazy and thinks that we're crazy for being disrespectful to Allah!!!
