Wizard of Oz suicide not real

I don't know exactly what this goes under because it is legend, but not urban. Anyway, for as long as I can remember I've been told that someone committed suicide during filming of the Wizard of Oz. My friend told me you could actaully see the person hang him/herself. It's during the scene when the witch is on the roof of a house threatening Dorothy. Right after she leaves if you watch the background you can see something fall in the background. It is supposedly the suicide. My math class and I zoomed in on it the other day and it is just a bird that flies down through the trees. If you watch the scene you will actually see the bird walking around. Just wanted to clear that up for anyone who has heard that legend.

How it changed my life:

Hasn't really. I just know not to believe some things until I see them.

Date: 6/15/2003 7:09:00 PM  From Authorid: 62197    Whoa! That was a new one on me. I had never heard that one before. I'm glad it's not true though....... my nieces and nephews all love that movie. (there's 19 of them) and it would be kinda creepy to think someone killed themselves in it (or at least it woult be to me..... I would never tell them about it of course) Islander31

Date: 6/15/2003 7:12:00 PM  From Authorid: 36994    I thought it was pretty creepy myself, I tried to catch it on the movie but on cable you can't really pause or rewind. Thanks for clearing that up though
Date: 6/15/2003 7:15:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 45367    Muffin Man-I think it's only the bird when it flies down. All I know is that we zoomed in and it's just the bird. I promise.
Date: 6/15/2003 7:21:00 PM  From Authorid: 4614    You are right...Snopes.com says it's most likely a crane...
Date: 6/15/2003 7:30:00 PM  From Authorid: 58078    Ya I did the same thing with zooming in on it. Did you see the little boy with the rifle in the window in the movie Three Men and a Baby?
Date: 6/15/2003 8:21:00 PM  From Authorid: 51587    I heard it was in a different part of the movie then where you described it being at. I heard it it was were all of the ppl. Dororthy, Lion, and them was walking in the woods somewhere...At least i think thats where i think it is.
and I have also heard that if you listen to this one CD while watching the movie..the songs go along w/the ppl talking. *hugs*

Date: 6/15/2003 8:58:00 PM  From Authorid: 53909    I remember this. A lot of people thought that it was a suicide because some dude didn't get a part in the movie or something like that. When I looked at it, it looked like the bird to me.
Date: 6/15/2003 8:59:00 PM  From Authorid: 4614    lol Andrea...That's fake also...Don't believe everything you hear...
Date: 6/15/2003 9:00:00 PM  From Authorid: 53909    This also reminds me of when people thought that there was a ghost a movie called "Three men and Baby" or something like that. Supposely you see a young boy in the window just staring at the camera and he died a lil while ago before shooting the film. He wanted to be a part of the film the rumor had said. But it turns out to be just a cardboard cut out of Ted Dunson or some Ted person.
Date: 6/15/2003 9:20:00 PM  From Authorid: 55330    LOL never heard that one.. Thanks for telling me about it, then clearing it up! LOL
Date: 6/15/2003 10:12:00 PM  From Authorid: 43653    Butterfly Dee, they say if you play Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd with the Movie it follows the story line. They showed it on Directv years ago but I missed it.
Date: 6/15/2003 10:22:00 PM  From Authorid: 55399    lol well thats kind of interesting... i never heard that urban legend but then again i never hear any poor me misses out lol
Date: 6/15/2003 10:38:00 PM  From Authorid: 45273    i heard that to, about both wizard of oz and three men and a baby. in the movie an walk to remember they think the theater that they did the play in was haunted.
Date: 6/15/2003 11:10:00 PM  From Authorid: 45273    oh and on the excorist(i am not sure on that spelling all i know is that is is wrong lol) but ne ways on the set there were fires and mysteries happenings
Date: 6/16/2003 9:19:00 AM  From Authorid: 60052    I have one of the original black and white reel to reel movies of the Wizard of Oz that I inhereted from my grandmother upon her passing, and upon hearing of this I dug out the reel and watched it over and over, stopping the reel fram by frame and although the background is fuzzy, whatever falls in the background is too big to be a bird and does swing back and forth. I also have the new colorized version on DVD and that scene has been changed from the original. The background was redone and there are many things that are different in that particular scene. The broom is different, the windows are different and the trees are shiny in odd places. I don't know if it is a suicide, but it is definitely not a bird in the origninal.
Date: 6/16/2003 11:00:00 AM  From Authorid: 54725    The story was just made up so the munchkins could get some publicity. They are overlooked
Date: 6/16/2003 2:33:00 PM  From Authorid: 55903    Yes, when I first heard that rumor, I watched carefully. It is a crane that you see. I thought it was obvious! But some people are gullible and see what they expect to see!
Date: 6/16/2003 2:39:00 PM  From Authorid: 12058    Yeah I was morbidly disappointed when I found this out for the first time
Date: 6/16/2003 3:27:00 PM  From Authorid: 34865    hmm i'll have to zoom in on that part, because it really looks like a man..but thanks
Date: 6/16/2003 4:31:00 PM  From Authorid: 28989    Hm, I always heard that it was a bird trying to commit suicide, but somehow it survived and hopped away unscathed.
Date: 6/16/2003 4:42:00 PM  From Authorid: 28989    If you watch the movie "Communion," with Christopher Walken, there's a scene where he's looking out at the night sky in New York. As the camera pans across the sky, a weird reflection in the camera lens creates the image of an alien face. You can stop the video and see the face clearly. The makers of the movie noticed it too and said it wasn't intentional; they didn't know where it came from.
Date: 6/16/2003 6:38:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 45367    The bird is huge. I'm not talking about a wren here. This bird is like peacock size for those of you who say a bird is too small. I'm telling you I saw it. It is just a bird.
Date: 6/17/2003 5:06:00 AM  From Authorid: 8184    Interesting! Thanks for clearing that up!
Date: 6/17/2003 1:53:00 PM  From Authorid: 56971    yes its a true story.
u can see him hanging in the back round
Date: 8/19/2003 8:47:00 AM  From Authorid: 60080    I heardthat it was supposedly one of the midgets working as a munchkin and they didnt ahve the money to change it
Date: 8/22/2003 8:49:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 45367    I'm telling you I zoomed in. It is just a bird. I promise.
