Very scarey! I'm always amazed how much info "they" have. I dared question one awhile back, and she got pretty snippy, which did not go well with me. I screen my calls very carefully now. ![]() |

OMG, that is extremely scary... That is why I never answer when I see "unknown" on my phone. I dont like thinking that someone has more info on me than I have on them. The few times I have accidently answered one, I always ask who the person is, and they rarely even tell you. But this is freaky, Im glad the family took action, and I hope that nothing happens to them. *hugs* ![]() |

wow, i used 2 do telemarketing for MCI, that job didnt last long, i hated it b/c they made us lie 2 the ppl we were calling, but while i was there, i had the weirdest customers, and even the other telemarkets there did stuff like this, it was all so ridiculous, i had so many calls that i made that just turned into obscene calls that it finally got 2 the point where i couldnt take it anymore. The thing with these companies is that they want u 2 lie and push for the sell but when they get caught in the lie, they dont blame themselves, they blame the telemarketer who was just doing as told ![]() |

I think that there should be one major list in the whole wide world with our names in two colums; People who want Tele. Mar. calls and those who don't. That way we all have a choice. The "Those who don't" would be full, the "Those who do" would be empty. (I'm sure) I guess it is unfair to have a luist though, it would put Tele. Mar. out of a job now wouldn't it.???? I guess I'm a kind soul, I just say,"OMG, BoborBertha...How have you been?" "You mean you don't remember me?" (you know...then I say...where did you go to H.S.?) they answer and I say,"You mean you dont remember me, I sat right behind you!" OMG!!~~~![]() |

Those telemarketing laws only apply to companies that offer a product. Companies that offer a service such as long distance are not included in the do not call laws, at least they used not be. For a short time in my life after I was laid off from a very good job and had no where to turn in a recession I had to take a telemarketing job, I called people who cliamed to be on a "do not call list" all the time, of course I could not control the calls that were being made from the computer diailing system. Im not proud of the fact that was once a telemarketer, but I did what I had to to survive at the time, I only did it for 4 months, and I can tell you right now that the death threats mostly come from the people you call, along with other inappropriate telephone behavior. Thats why I quit, I was not proud of what I was doing, plus I was tired of all the abuse I was taking from strangers, so it works both ways........ ![]() |

Rika, telemarketers are not dumb, they just people trying to earn a living, and put food on the table for them and thier families. Those calls might be annoying but think about this, if everybody hates those calls, then why are so many telemarketers so successfull on making the sell??? ![]() |

Yes, Atomic Andy it can go both ways I understand that. But when people say "I'm not interested" and hang up it doesn't give anyone the right to call back and threaten those people. Most time if I do answer my phone and it's a telemarketer I say very politely I'm not interested. Then state I need to go bye, have a nice day...I think once a person says I'm not interested that should end the call. I know that most telemarketers are probably only trying to live and provide for their families...so that's why I'm polite. ![]() |

Here's a tip, when you get a telemarketing call, in order for them not to call you back ask them to put you on thier suppresion list, this removes your name out of thier system, and remember its not the same person calling you back its a computer dialing system error, dont take it personally. And by the way this guy was way out of line and deserves everything he has comming to him...... ![]() |

Hello, Well, it's my first day posting and I can say I'm having a great time already :-) Now, about telemarketers, I did this kind of work for a while and I can let you in on a few things. #1 There is a list but, it may not be what you think. There is a rather large (and expensive) book out there called the Coles ditectory. This book lists ALL (and I do mean all) phone numbers per calling area in 4 different ways. By name (just like a regular phone book), by tax rolls (Large income households being "A" listed, upper middle class being "B" listed and so on) By neighborhood grouping, and finally by sequential numbering. even if you're number in "unlisted" you are still in Coles..... there's just no mane by the number. #2 One company and do several promotions and even though you ask to "be taken off of the list" for one phone call they can still call you back for a different promotion... even though it's the same company. #3 Telemarketers are well known for NOT using their real names. Just because you were told that a person you complained about is no longer with the company doesn't mean that they were fired. They could have just chanced their name..... and could call you again. I agree that you're best bet is not to answer unlisted calls. (and this means Out of the area calls also) If it's important, they can always leave a message on you're answering machine (or voice mail... what ever you have) Hope this sheds some light on some things Islander 31 :-) |
