This is perhaps one of the most well known and widley variated urban legends.

The Vanishing Hitch Hiker-

(This was back when you could trust people) A guy was driving home from a party when he saw a girl standing by the side of the road. He pulled over and asked if she needed a ride. She said yes, she got into the back seat and told him where she lived. She looked cold, and her offered her his jacket, she accepted it but still shivered. He drove her near her house, and she said "I'll walk from here." "Are you sure?" he asked. she said "Yeah, I'm sure." He drove off realising he forgot his jacket, he went back the next day, and went to the house, it was pretty run-down and when he knocked a shabbily dressed old lady answered. "Miss, I'm looking for the girl that lives here, she borrowed my jacket and..." he was cut off. "Oh! Not another one, my daughter has been dead for 15 years, she was hit by a car as she walked home from a party. Now for some reason she tries to hitch hike home, you're about the thirtyeith person this has happnened to. If you don't believe me check out the graveyard!" the color drained from his face and he walked somberly to the graveyard. He saw a grave, and on it was his jacket, neatly folded...

Room for one more-

A woman was staying at her friend's house. That night she had a strange dream, in it a hearse driver came up to the front porch of her friend's house and told her "Room for one more.." and pointed toward the car. Something about him wasn't right, something about him just scared her, she declined. The woke up from the dream very frightened. The next day she went shopping, and was about to step onto an elevator, when she saw the man from her dream, he said "Room for one more..." She said "No, I think I'll walk down" the elevator doors slammed shut and there was a rush of screaming and metal slamming into the ground, the elevator had crashed and not a single person inside lived...

The Pet Dog-

A couple vacationing in mexico wanted to bring a present home for their son. They thought they had found the perfect gift. It was a mexican hairless dog. They brought it home with them and gave it to their son, he didn't seem to like it much. That night it stayed in his room, the next day they found their cat in the room dead. But the "dog" was still alive, they took it to the vet. The vet turned to the lady and her husband with a grim expression, "Sir, ma'am this isn't a dog, it's a giant mexican rat, and it has rabies..."

Date: 6/12/2003 8:56:00 PM  From Authorid: 15070    thank you. Actually "Resurection Mary" IS a real story. You can find it online, or in Richard Crowes's Book HAUNTED CHICAGOLAND. There are actually SEVERAL stories about vanishing hitchhikers in the Chicagoland area alone. Too many to pass them off as simply "Urban Legands".
Date: 6/12/2003 8:59:00 PM  From Authorid: 15070    The Pet Dog....I read that in Scary Legands book 2. I even saw it featured on a t.v. show once. I think it was called "Urban Legands". Thanks for the stories though.....
