How seriously do you take internet personas? ~Kethria~

How honest are you here? My life for one is an open book, but how would you feel if someone questioned whether you were telling the truth or not. Would you go out of your way to prove that what you said was true? Or would you ignore it with the "whatever, I know the truth and that is all that is important" attitude.

:) Let's talk...

Kethria

Date: 6/12/2003 2:45:00 PM  From Authorid: 16845    with me....what you see is what you get....but I don't think I would go out of my way to prove myself to anyone online....I mean what's the point!? LOL...
Date: 6/12/2003 2:46:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 18527    I dunno, I would like to THINK that I would do that but as soon as you say "I don't have to prove anything to anyone" then the opponents say "Suuure that's just because you CAN'T prove it..."
Date: 6/12/2003 2:46:00 PM  From Authorid: 60018    Lol I would ignore it if someone didn't believe that this is the real me. Sure I'm a little different here than I am in real life but not by much. If anything the person I am here is the person that I wish I could be in real life. I've met a few people that I don't trust from the internet but I just trust my instincts So what are you not honest about mwwhhhaaaahhhha
Date: 6/12/2003 2:56:00 PM  From Authorid: 22992    Hmm i am prety much perfectly honest... besides the fact i dont give out some information. But i think i would be crushed if someone you have loved or talked to alot turned out to be someone different....
Date: 6/12/2003 2:57:00 PM  From Authorid: 22992    I also dont try to conform to people to gain their friendship, being nice and friendly works just fine
Date: 6/12/2003 3:12:00 PM  From Authorid: 53284    What you see is what you get. It would be too much work to create a fictious persona and then remain in character for me to bother with. You would have to remember all your lies and not trip yourself up. I get a headache just thinking about how much work it would be. (In reality, I'm a twelve year old poodle named Fifi.)
Date: 6/12/2003 3:13:00 PM  From Authorid: 46527    I wouldn't be bothered, if a person felt me to be untruthful then I doubt I would bother with them.
Date: 6/12/2003 3:16:00 PM  From Authorid: 61966    I'm as honest as it gets, I see no reason to lie to anyone about who I am. What you see here at USM and in my posts is definitly me! I kind of would wanna go out of my way to prove what I said was true cause I don't want people to think I lie but then again I may not. Intresting post! -BreathingBody
Date: 6/12/2003 3:21:00 PM  From Authorid: 56293    I'm honest, because that's what I would expect from someone.I don't think I should have to go out of my way to prove myself to someone.
Date: 6/12/2003 3:24:00 PM  From Authorid: 33925    I HAVE been questioned Keth..LOL..at one time there were a few that saw my pic on Banner's site and decided that I was a fraud because I didnt look old enough to know the things about life that I knew, so they set out to prove that I was a fraud..I remember how upset I was over it..
Date: 6/12/2003 3:24:00 PM  From Authorid: 24924    I have nothing to hide; don't have anything to sell; don't have any desires to be "popular", and MY whole life is about HONESTY. I value honesty more than anything. What you see (read) is what I AM. If ANYONE (they have!) questions my honesty, then they had better have a good reason; otherwise, I will ignore them; and they aren't worth my time. I can accept just about anything; any personality, any quirks and any lifestyles, whatever, but I cannot and will not accept lies from anyone.
Date: 6/12/2003 3:34:00 PM  From Authorid: 61893    I am an open book..lol No secrets here Men are shocked when I actually tell them my age, height and weight when they ask. No biggie to me, like me or don't like me, believe me or don't believe me. I know who I am When you get to know me, you get to see all the sides of me.. good and bad. I don't hide it. Hi, I am Tina, I am 28 years old, 5'3" and 158 pds. LOL I have went out of my way once to prove to someone that I was the person that was in the photo I sent him. I ended up sending him 10 photos of me..lol However, I dunno if I would do it again.
Date: 6/12/2003 3:43:00 PM  From Authorid: 8278    i am exactally what everyone sees (or reads, i should say. lol) except i am a little less shy on the internet. in person, i never initiate a conversation. lol. but i don't think i would go out of my way to prove i was telling the truth. i understand that it is hard to believe what some people say.afterall, you can be anyone you want to online. but i never lie, not in everyday life and not online. if people don't want to believe it, thats their choice.
Date: 6/12/2003 3:50:00 PM  From Authorid: 35720    I'm exactly who I say I am and if you don't believe me, screw you..
Date: 6/12/2003 3:50:00 PM  From Authorid: 36766    I'm 100% honest, I have nothing to lie about...if someone doesn't believe me and feels that they need to prove something wrong about me, then all they would be doing is wasting their time
Date: 6/12/2003 3:57:00 PM  From Authorid: 44960    I have absolutely nothing to hide, I am the same person in real life as I am sitting behind this puter screen. I do not live a lie, if I tell you something, then you can take it to the bank! Check the profile if you have any doubts. I am a real person in a real world and I kinda like it that way!
Date: 6/12/2003 4:04:00 PM  From Authorid: 53689    I, personally, would be taken aback a bit if someone questioned my honesty, but at the same time I realize that this(the internet) is a place where so many hide who they really are and it is hard to know who is being truthful. There isn't anything I can do to really "prove" who I am, so I wouldn't bother trying.
Date: 6/12/2003 4:13:00 PM  From Authorid: 21435    Hello Kethria I love your aka. *wink* Of course, you already know that..lol..I try to be totally honest with everyone. I believe that if a person is honest, the stories stay consistent..Oh Lordy! I have always had an avid imagination and have been known to insert myself into various situations. Makes for interesting readings..sometimes..If anyone ever asked me though, I will tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth....Whether people believe me or not, well that is beyond my control. I suppose if I thought that "proving" the truth would make a difference for someone, then I might do it. Otherwise, I'd just shine it on..Interesting question, Kethria. Write on
Date: 6/12/2003 4:19:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 18527    Thanks for responding!!
Date: 6/12/2003 4:32:00 PM  From Authorid: 31765    I've never found a good enough reason to pose online. When I send my pic, for better or worse that's me. If I relate an experience, again...for better or worse it's the truth. My memory just isn't good enough to keep track of my real life and then a fabricated one. On the same token, I take people at face value, until I have reason to think otherwise. If I find someone has told a whopper, I pretty much write them off because I have neither the time nor patience nor energy to expend on liars. May sound harsh, but that's just the way I operate
Date: 6/12/2003 4:35:00 PM  From Authorid: 15228    Who would lie about a boring life like I have??? If someone accused me of something I don't think it would bother me all that much though I might try to prove them wrong. My daughter (who also has an account, she's *Shakes* and hangs out in the horror section mostly) and I couldn't get on USM one time, when I finally got ahold of an Admin, it turned out whenever my daughter couldn't find her password she would just make a new account. I had a lot of explaining to do and wasn't sure if the admin ever believed that I actually wasn't parading around under a bunch of different names.
Date: 6/12/2003 6:21:00 PM  From Authorid: 40899    but the real question is: what would you do if someone started spreading rumors about you online, to people that you know in real life? what would you do?
Date: 6/12/2003 6:41:00 PM  From Authorid: 24924    Bojangles, the people that I know and who KNOW me would KNOW that it is a rumor. They would tell me and or ask me about it; and never would they ASSUME anything. If someone is going to just assume the rumor was truth; then they aren't a very good friend to begin with. By the same token, if I hear a rumor about a friend, I WILL do a thorough investigation, and won't assume anything until and if there is proof.
Date: 6/12/2003 7:02:00 PM  From Authorid: 40899    yes, but in this world we live in, someone could start a rumor on the internet about you and you might never know about it! i get that feeling a lot!
Date: 6/12/2003 7:52:00 PM  From Authorid: 31255    I'm the same here as I am offline, except I'm probably a little more quiet offline A number of USMers have met me so I don't think I have anything to prove. It really wouldn't be worth my time if someone didn't believe me about something. Those who know me know the truth.
Date: 6/12/2003 9:05:00 PM  From Authorid: 24924    Bojangles, dear, do NOT worry about ANY "what if's" "Maybe's" or "shoulda, coulda, woulda's"; as it will be futile; and make your life crazy. THAT is no way to live.
Date: 6/12/2003 9:25:00 PM  From Authorid: 42945    what you see and what you hear from me is what you get hun, as you say, if someone questioned my integrity here "Whatever, I know the truth and that is all that is important"is the exact attitude I would take...anyone who asks me anything, and I mean anything at all, will get the truth from me...good post sweetie....MIL
Date: 6/12/2003 10:48:00 PM  From Authorid: 26452    I'm honest online, as Iam offline, I don't see much a need for lying about yourself lol. If it was small like umm "oh you really don't have green eyes" lol or something like that, I would ignore it. But, if it was something about me, that was importaint to me, that I was being accused of, it would bother me. Like, about a year ago, someone who was mad at me called me the *bleep* of the usm lol. That, was something that upset me, I wasn't going to stress myself out proving that I wasn't, but I didn't just let it roll off my back. If that makes any sense.
Date: 6/13/2003 8:21:00 PM  From Authorid: 28190    I have been questioned about this before.. I am who I am, except maybe I dont give AS many hugs in real life as I do online, But other than that I am me... I pretty much ignored the times I have been called a fake or a fraud, but I still wanted to prove it, but how do you prove something like that unless you are face to face with the person saying such things? Its almost impossible. So no, I didnt go out of my way to prove it, but those that really take the time to get to know who I am, know that I am pretty much who I am online, that I am offline, except here, I cant cuss as I usually do irl.. lol... Good post Keth. *hugs*
Date: 6/16/2003 5:44:00 AM  From Authorid: 25828    it depends. if the person mattered to me a bunch i guess i would try to prove myself, but - there are many internet freaks, and some try to get you to give out personal info just so they can harass you - (personal info=proof).. basically - no , i never care what people on the internet think about anything i say or do - to me the internet is a place to be totally honest - complete anonymity (if you choose to keep it)...
Date: 8/31/2004 12:15:00 AM  From Authorid: 35160    i am myself here and everywhere else. if someone doesnt believe that this is me , oh well. im still gonna be myself, whether they believe it or not.
