The Future of America

Alot of people say that the generations today are too wild and rebellious and the worse than the ones before, etc. I agree. Im 16 and alot of the stuff that I see in my peers is really stupid. I mean if they would just shut up and obey the rules, they' spare themselves alot of trouble. I mean if it is disobeying for something that is going to hurt them or someone else yeah, fine. But usually its like fighting and stuff.

Anyway, I think that alot of the movies and tv shows that youths are exposed to might be the cause of it.

Debate: When the older generations disappear (those who followed the morals and values of the family and stuff), will America be better or worse if left to the generation that started in the 80's, 90's, and 00's?

Date: 6/8/2003 5:37:00 PM  From Authorid: 54247    Have no idea. Do believe that eventually morals and values will prevail. I'm 71 (always play the old-age card) and today you are facing much more than I did. RAT
Date: 6/8/2003 5:39:00 PM  From Authorid: 53052    i think there are alot of advantages and alot more doors open... but there are always a few bad seeds....
Date: 6/8/2003 5:41:00 PM  From Authorid: 19482    I hope, hope, HOPE things get better. I don't believe we are going to TOTALLY ruin the future just yet, but I think it's slowly going downhill.
Date: 6/8/2003 5:43:00 PM  From Authorid: 53052    but i also think more and more teenagers are looking for the easy way out and make up excuses to do a hard days work and aavoid it like it's a death sentance
Date: 6/8/2003 9:30:00 PM  From Authorid: 54987    Don't worry none. All these wild childs will end up like their parents LOL. That question has been asked for hundreds of years, and we're still OK.
Date: 6/8/2003 10:07:00 PM  From Authorid: 12341    Koolade's right. In the end, common sense and morals prevail.
Date: 6/9/2003 12:26:00 AM  From Authorid: 36956    I agree that even eventually the wild teens have to become mellow adults and grow up. I have to say I dissagree with the movie violence being the reason that young adults are becoming violent. There has always been violence in the world. I have 2 sons that see the violence in movies(I dont censor)its up to the parents to explain the difference between right and wrong while watching those movies. Television was never meant to be a build in babysitter!

Date: 6/9/2003 12:41:00 AM  From Authorid: 51027    REMEMBER WACO ANARCHY!!! ANARCHY!!!ANARCHY!! WE NEED ANARCHY!!
Date: 6/9/2003 4:47:00 AM  From Authorid: 22852    Actually I think that the teens of today will make wonderful adults. I am very involved in the schools and yes there are some teens I would like to put through the wall but the majority of kids today have a good set of values. The teens of today are growing up in hard times, they saw first hand what hatered towards others can do. My oldest son is 21 now and when he and his friends were 17/18 they did not take life serious but after Sept 11th they grew up over night, my youngest is 12 going on 20, the kindness I see in the children he goes to school with shocks even me. Yes like I said there are some bad, no caring souls too but they are not as bad as you may think. Remember too that todays adults were children once also and the adults back then thought we were all bad and the world world fall apart when we grew up. So I guess what I am saying is there is good and bad everywhere but the good usually comes out on top.
Date: 6/9/2003 5:41:00 AM  From Authorid: 59163    the slackers will always slack, and the people who want to work hard will. eventually the smarter, harder working class will get rid of things like welfare and unemployement, things that do more damage to the economy than help it. and the slackers will either die off or get jobs that work them.
Date: 6/9/2003 8:25:00 AM  From Authorid: 54532    I dont think its movies or tv but I believe that as we get older we will mature.
Date: 6/9/2003 8:54:00 AM  From Authorid: 53284    I have had the pleasure of working with a number of teens who are now starting to graduate college. They are an impressive bunch. In every generation there are those who foolishly do things that bring them limited noteriety but there are also those who quietly work hard and become the leaders of the next generation. The thing that is different about this generation is that videos record the stupidity of a few people then it gets viewed by many people who believe that all young people are like that.
Date: 6/9/2003 10:40:00 AM  From Authorid: 48279    Well i think they'll be fine. Who you see are teenagers. I use to be stupid, and disobey my family and I was just rude ... i admit it, i was not nice to anyone around me. Now, I'm getting my life together, i have grown up for the better, and I watch all those tv shows. I dont think that has a thing to do with it. Its all who you surround yourself with. I think this is a great topic though! ~Hereisanameforyou
Date: 6/9/2003 5:48:00 PM  From Authorid: 55967    I don't know about the future of America (no one does), but as for your future, it's looking great. For 16, you have a good head on your shoulders. Keep it good, and you'll go far. Incidently, someone said something like, Kids today are the thorns in our sides. They do not listen and are very unruly. That someone was Plato. Or Aristotle. ONE of them. (I think you get the point).
Date: 6/10/2003 6:03:00 PM  From Authorid: 62196    AHEM *steps onto soap box* First off, America going down hill is not the teens fault.BUt that's a totally different subject. Teens do that kind of stuff man, and besides how would a few fights amongst teens or adults ruin a country? I do agree with you on two points however, this country is going down hill. And youth is too influenced by the media. *Steps off his soap box*
Date: 6/11/2003 5:34:00 AM  From Authorid: 59163    its not the fights between teens that bother people 62196. people are worried about what kind of adults these degenerates are going to grow up into. people who have good jobs and families and pay taxes. or people that live of the tax dollars of the few that have jobs.
Date: 6/12/2003 7:09:00 AM  From Authorid: 61999    I think it will be pretty bad when we actually become grown-ups (I'm 23 and I don't feel adult-ish yet, lol). Alot of us have no conscience about anything. We just don't care. I know because I'm usually like that. The only conscience I have now is my mom. Oh, and God, too, now. I don't care what anyone else thinks, really.~~The Mighty DreamGyrl~~
Date: 6/12/2003 4:51:00 PM  From Authorid: 57105    I think many morals of Americans today will be gone in the next hundred years. Its a sad thing to say, but it may be true. Though there are many young people who are very wise and have good morals still. I just hope those people get high up in the government before the Bills and Teds of America do. lol -fantasy/reality
Date: 6/14/2003 2:05:00 PM  From Authorid: 2030    Values are less stringent. But my worry is the unrealistic expectations so many young people have. The things they expect to have or get is beyond the means of most people starting out. This leads more more credit card debt, bankruptcies are at an all time high. Many peole have shackled themselves to long term unmanageable debt.
