My pregnant sister

  Author:  15228  Category:(Prayers) Created:(6/7/2003 10:27:00 PM)
This post has been Viewed (1352 times)

She is 8 months pregnant with her second child. She has been having symptoms of a stroke off and on for the past month. BIG things like sudden confusion and difficulty speaking, sudden vision loss, dizziness, problems with walking and severe headaches. Episodes usually last about a half hour. Afterwards she feels as if she's been hit by a truck.

Her OB sent her straight to a Neuro. Did he do anything??? NO!!!! he said she might have migraines, but didn't run tests or give her medication. Well do you have loss of memory with migraines?? Not that I ever heard of and I know many people who have migraines. Today she couldn't even remember her two year olds name and it lasted a half an hour! Did her husband take her to the ER? No!

I feel so helpless and scared for her. I don't know why they are messing around like this and doing nothing. If I weren't 8 States away her rear-end would be in a hospital RIGHT NOW! In fact, I may be making a road trip VERY soon.

Please pray for her!!

Date: 6/7/2003 10:30:00 PM  From Authorid: 52489    Talk to a doctor you trust and ask them to diagnose the problem, then scan the diagnosis and send it to your sister. If she takes you seriously, she will be able to convince her husband to get her the treatment she needs. This is important not only for her benefit, but also for her child!
Date: 6/7/2003 10:42:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15228    I went to the National Stroke association web site and she has all but One symptom of a pre-stroke (forget what it is actually called), it said no matter what go directly to the ER even if it stops!! I've talked to her, my mother has talked to her and her husband. I think they just want to go with the migraine theory because it is easier to deal with... on migraine web sites I've never found any symptoms similar to what she is experiencing. The neuro did comment that some pregnant woman have symptoms that "mimic" a stroke..I don't know what that means. I've never heard of that. Why would he diagnose a migraine if she is having "fake" stroke symptoms?? My other sister has already talked to a different doc, he said it sounds like small strokes to him also.
Date: 6/7/2003 10:45:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15228    Found it..It's called a transient ischemic attack (TIA), or "mini-stroke" A TIA can cause many of the same symptoms as a stroke, but TIA symptoms are transient and last for a few minutes to a few days and can go into a major stroke.
Date: 6/7/2003 10:45:00 PM  From Authorid: 15675    aww I will pray for her
Date: 6/8/2003 7:41:00 AM  From Authorid: 35720    I will definently be praying for her!
Date: 6/8/2003 9:02:00 AM  From Authorid: 53900    I will pray for her...there is a condition that mimics a stroke in regnant women but I cannot for the life of me remember what it is called. My neighbor had it when she was pregnant it does not just happen to pregnant women though but it does happen alot to pregnant women. Also did teh doc check your sister's blood pressure? It seems like that could cause some of the symptoms and if her blood pressure is up she could have pre-eclampsia
Date: 6/8/2003 9:03:00 AM  From Authorid: 53900    That should be pregnant women...sorry
Date: 6/8/2003 9:06:00 AM  From Authorid: 53900    The symptoms of preeclampsia may include: agitation and confusion · changes in mental status · decreased urine output · headaches · nausea and vomiting · pain in the right upper part of the abdomen · shortness of breath · sudden weight gain over 1 to 2 days · swelling of the face or hands · visual impairment · weight gain of more than 2 pounds per week those are the symptoms of preeclamsia here is an article that gives more details http://health.discovery.com/diseasesandcond/encyclopedia/2011.html
