You can get depression at the age of 13. You should talk to your parents about how you are feeling and maybe go see a doc just in case. I hope you feel better soon. Best wishes. |

i'm no psychiatrist i'm sure you could be depressed at your age. i wouldn't jump to conculsions though. it really could be you hormones though. they're killers...i was just like that at your age (dead serious). i've been 5' for about 3 years and during that time, i gained about 15 lbs from eating...yea it wasn't too cool. so here i am tryin to work it off...anyway i'm not trying to scare you or anything. things here started going wrong a long 4 years ago...just a lot of things. SO anyway i don't know exactly what's going wrong there, but i guess it just might be your hormones acting up. if you've got good parents, maybe talk to them about it. if you've got parents like me (i can't explain them...well they're over protective and think nothing can go wrong with me if i stay in the house all day) then i wouldn't say "do you think i'm depressed?" but maybe just talk to them about what's been going on and slowly work your way to hinting that you are feeling real low. OH and don't hurt your body (ex: cut yourself) i don't know if that helped at all, but i hope things get better for you |

if you've got good friends, then they will stay by you and help you through it. if people there are really that judgemental, then i wouldn't worry about it, but that's obviously just me. i'd try not to be too worried about your reputation or being embarassed because someone's bound to know. i had something things wrong in junior high and was SO afraid of anyone to know so i became antisocial and lost some friends becuase of it. now in high school i see people who had the same problem that i did in junior high and they play it cool. i really regret being so selfconcious. like i said, if you've got true friends, then they'll stick with you. |

it is sad, that what you feel about being embarassed, is probably the reason that many people do not address their own depression... The beauty of it is, life does not have to be lived in a depressed state. There are drugs that help people, but I would say, that periodic bouts of depression are NORMAL for everyone, it is when the depression persists for weeks on end, that people need medication. If it is temporary, and passes after a little while, I would say it's normal, and part of being a human being... if it is long lasting for weeks and weeks and months and months, then DO something about it, because you dont' have to accept that life is like that for everyone.... |

Believe it or not, but teen depression is actually common. From doing my own research on it. I was the same way when I was a teen, part of it is the change in hormons in the body. Also if your family has a history if depression. A number of things can attribute to depression in teens. But mostly the things you do hear about depression are more focused on adults. It wasn't till the other day I saw a commercial for research on teen depression and how common it is. It is possible that you do have depression. I would talk with a Doctor and your parents about it before it gets any worse hun. You are in my prayers. God Bless |

I'm not embarrassed to admit that I have depression. I know when I'm in trouble and when I need help. I've lived with depression probably all of my life. I was diagnosed with clinical depression when I was 15 years old. |
