If you were to die at sunrise...(The origin of Salem's Lot)
Standing victorious with her sword in hand, Salem glared over at all her victim's bodies. Shelooked toward the horizon. Almost dawn. She layed the sword at her feet and began to walk back into town. As she got closer she began to feel weaker, as if something was draining out her energy. She looked back, realizing that she needed to find shelter soon. "But why? Why not just stand here and die?" She looked towards the sky, and cursed it. "What God is there that would create such a devil? Why was I ever allowed to exist this long?!" Salem fell to her knees with her face in her hands, and she cried. "How could a race so evil have survived for so long?! I ask you! HOW?!?" She cried harder, pounding her fists on the cobblestone street. The blood on her hands was smearing onto her face. She stopped crying then rose to her feet and headed for a dark alley. She sat down in her usual spot, a dark corner behind a dumpster where no one or nothing could find her, and took her journal and a pen from her pocket and began writing... "Today, I have decided, is my last day on this earth. I don't know how I have managed to survive this long, but all that matters is that I have and I'm finally taking control. I don't belong here, and neither do they." She glanced back to the place where her victims, her friends, lie dead and awaiting the sun. "I've killed them all and now I'm the only one left. I have decided that the time has come for the vampire race the be demenished from this earth. We are of no use to anyone here." She looked around the dumpster and saw the past inhabitance of the town returning to their homes. "Humans are flawed, indeed, but never hopeless. Word has gotten out that all the vampires have 'mysteriously' disappeared from the town, and now everyone is returning home. All of them, except one." She closed her journal and proceeded to stick it into her pocket but opened it back up to jot down her last few thoughts. "I shall cast this book into the ocean. I do not know what to expect. The time is drawing near...and I am afraid. I shall be alone in death as I was on life. My last few moments are for myself only." She closed the journal and shoved it in her pocket and headed for the sea side. The sun was rising higher into the sky and she felt her body go numb but continued to stare out into the ocean, the gentle breeze all around her. She sighed and heard a little voice behind her asking "If you were to die at sunrise...where would you be when the sun rose?" Salem hung her head, closing her eyes. Not bothering to look back she replied, "In my room, transcribing my last thoughts. The window is open that faces the sun... I am ready to go." Salem looked towards the horizon as she heard a fading laugh behind her. Whoever it was is gone now. It was only a matter of time before she, along with the rest of the vampires, would be gone. With the rest of the strength she had inside her she held her arms out wide, greeting the sunlight. The towns people watched in amazement, not knowing what was going on. She heard whispers behind her..."I thought ALL of them were gone? Why is she still here?" Another replied, "Maybe she was the one who killed them." "But that's impossible! Who in their right mind would kill someone of their own species!?!" Salem thought to herself, "I would, if it was for the good of humans." And with her last breath her body began to fade as if someone was erasing her from the planet. Slowly her body turned into a glimmer and then vanished. The towns people gasped. A little girl walked up to where Salem had been standing and laid the sword on the ground. An old man asked "Where did you get that, little girl?" She replied, "I found it...over on that hill. I knew it belonged to her. Who else would have killed the other vampires?" The little girl walked off, returning to her home. The mayor stood before the people, and spoke. "We do not realize what that vampire has done for us. She killed her own race for the sake of humans!" He looked at the sword, reading the name on it. "In memory of her, this town will be called...Salem's Lot." He stabbed the sword into the ground as the sun reached it's highest point in the sky. The people trudged back to their homes as the beginning of a new day approached. After a few hours the sun began to set and a little girl walked up to the sea shore where the sword stood firm in the ground. She placed her hand on the sword and smiled. "I wonder..." she thought to herself, "How can a myth spread..if everyone dies?" She let out an evil laugh, smiling, as the sun gleamed off her silvery fangs.
