Authorities Investigating Accidental Shooting
POSTED: 8:01 a.m. EDT June 2, 2003
DANBURY, Conn. -- An off-duty Monroe, Conn., police officer was injured after his gun accidentally discharged outside a toy store off Route 6 in Danbury.
Thomas Mckirdy, 49, of Newtown, Conn., was released from Danbury Hospital after being treated for a superficial gunshot wound to his buttocks.
The gun went off Sunday while Mckirdy was adjusting it in his car, police said. Apparently not realizing he'd been shot, he drove home and then called an ambulance after 2 p.m., police said. Monroe police Sgt. Mark Caufield said the shooting was accidental and no one else was injured.
Both the Danbury and Monroe police departments were investigating.

**I debated on whether or not to post this in humor, but some may not share my twisted view of things. At any rate, no one was seriously injured, save for Officer Mckirdy's pride...you know he's going to be the butt of jokes around the squad room...sorry, couldn't resist. Peace all!
