A question about a 13 year old driving around!

I know someone who lets his 13 year old son drive his car anywhere. The dad does not believe much will be done if he is caught. I disagree and I get very upset when I see this kid driving down my road. I don't want to report him but I am thinking about doing it. This kid is very immature and freaks out when other cars gets close to him. I feel I shouldn't wait for an accident to happen to open my mouth. Would you guys please tell me what you would do. Would you just ignore it? I really think there will be serious charges against the father if they are caught, What do you think the punishment will be, in Georgia.

Date: 5/30/2003 4:24:00 PM  From Authorid: 33573    Well I don't know how the laws are in Georgia but where I live you start drivers ed when you are 14 and 9 months and you can get your liscence at 16 if you have taken segemnt 1 and 2. I don't think that is right because all the other people who don't get to drive are waiting patiently and he gets to. Its not fair to the other drivers either because he most likely isn't experienced and h could get into an accident. I would tell the police next time you see him out driving. The kid probably won't be able to get his liscence until he is 18 maybe ... it all depends on the laws in your state.
Date: 5/30/2003 4:26:00 PM  From Authorid: 45948    Well, I do know this is what the punnishment will be here in Alabama because my 13 year old brother got caught driving. He had to spend 48 hrs. in juvenile detention, my DAD had to pay a 500.00 fine, and plus they made him and my dad go to parent/child classes. My dad didn't even know he was driving. One of my brothers "friends" let him borrow his car while he was at work.

Date: 5/30/2003 4:44:00 PM  From Authorid: 53308    Well, here i know that the kid wouldn't be able to get his liscense til he is 18, and the father...well i'm not sure bout him...he could get a fine...yes report the kid...i mean we all had to wait til we were 15/16 to drive and he is just waiting to get into an accident...its his stupidity for driving right? he should deal with the consequences.

Date: 5/30/2003 4:46:00 PM  From Authorid: 23075    It is dangerous and should be reported
Date: 5/30/2003 4:50:00 PM  From Authorid: 53284    13 is not old enough for most of the population to reach a state of maturity that I think would be appropiate to drive a car.
Date: 5/30/2003 5:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 57404    I would have picked up the phone already.. he is too young to drive and if he freaks out anytime there is anyone near.. that is dangrous. Don't wait till an accident occurrs. What if he hits another kid walking down the street and the kid is killed, you would feel pretty bad, when you knew you had the chance to stop it. I know you would hate to see the dad get into trouble, but obviously he is clueless and should be turned in for being an irrisponsible parent. Let us know what happens. God Bless :-)
Date: 5/30/2003 5:39:00 PM  From Authorid: 53052    report it!!! just for the safety of all the other drivers!
Date: 5/30/2003 6:53:00 PM  From Authorid: 57830    i would teach the kid a lesson, drive REALLY close to him-give him a scare... then see what happens (of course, then he'll probably end up hitting you! lol, that would suck!)
Date: 5/30/2003 7:05:00 PM  From Authorid: 28946    There is a case like that here in Indiana and the woman has several charges against her. There is: Chiuld Endangerment, Child Abuse, Neglect of a Dependant, Reckless Driving, and a few other charges. This happened last December I think in Indianapolis.
Date: 5/30/2003 7:31:00 PM  From Authorid: 13897    WildBob, I don't think a lot of 18 year olds have reached the level of maturity to REALLY be responsible driving a car.
Date: 5/30/2003 8:12:00 PM  From Authorid: 53256    I think you should report the father. I think actions would be taken to the father since he is being irresponsiable about his kid. Don't wait any longer. You need to tell the authorities right away. The kid can get seriously hurt, or might seriously hurt someone else, or even worse if a life is taken away. This needs to be reported soon as possiable. How can parents be so careless. Jeeze 13 years old and driving, the father needs to buy the kid a bike.
Date: 5/30/2003 8:53:00 PM  From Authorid: 5252    you should tell. it's idiots like that, parents like that, that anger me deeply! Two of my friends were stupid enough to get in a car with a girl that had no license or permit, never taken drivers ed, but been in three wrecks, at the age of fifteen. the girl driving had no damage, my two friends, one had stitches above her eye, and the other had surgery on her leg. don't wait until someone gets hurt, speak now!
