Elk foundation member hits elk with pickup

Associated Press May. 29, 2003 01:30 PM

PRESCOTT - A local Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation committee member struck and critically injured a bull elk with his pickup after leaving a fund-raiser for the animal.

The accident occurred May 17 on Highway 89 at about 10:30 p.m.

"He was standing in the middle of the road when I came around the corner," said Scott Glattfelder, who estimated the 3-year-old elk's weight at more than 700 pounds. "It was unavoidable."

Glattfelder was alone in the vehicle and uninjured in the accident, which caused about $8,000 damage to the pickup's front end.
