'American Idol' Phone Controversy?... was it really meant to be Clay afterall??

i just realised i probally should have put this under "in the news" but i would like people to give thier opinion and thoughts on it

Celebrity Justice" has learned that more than 200,000 people may have mistakenly dialed while trying to vote for Ruben or Clay, and these calls were never tallied.

A communications company in Indiana discovered the glitch and found that of those misdialed calls, more than 2 to 1 would have gone for Clay. Since the final vote was so close to begin with, slightly more than 130,000(number probally isn't right i'm just quoting the web site i grabbed it off i'm pretty sure ryan seacrest said a far lower number) more votes for Ruben, some might argue this could throw the results into doubt.

According to Cinergy Communications, here's what happened: those who made the mistake while dialing punched a wrong key. Ruben's numbers phone number was 1-866-Idols-01 and Clay’s was 1-866-Idols-02. When you spell out "Idol" on the phone, it’s 43657, but it seems some pushed 7 for the "O" instead of 6. The 7 has a letter "Q" and people apparently mistook the "Q" for an "O."

Even Cinergy understands how that could happen. A spokesman says, "On my keypad, for example, the little tail on the 'Q' is small on the keypad. All I can figure is if they’re in a hurry to dial it, and make sure that their votes get counted, it would be an easy mistake to make."

FOX meanwhile stands firm on the outcome, saying, "There were no voting irregularities on 'American Idol.' The votes were checked and re-checked multiple times. Ruben Studdard is the 'American Idol.'"

Date: 5/29/2003 6:14:00 PM  From Authorid: 11341    I do think there was something wrong, at the end of the last show while trying to vote for clay, for about 20 minutes it would say this number has been disconnected lol.
Date: 5/29/2003 6:14:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53052    DMK i honestly wouldn't be surprised
Date: 5/29/2003 6:16:00 PM  From Authorid: 11341    I knew from the very begining who would win, they pushed it to be Ruben. I am not by any means saying he isnt deserving, but.....
Date: 5/29/2003 6:25:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53052    i agree they really pushed on the commercials and the celeb mags and TV shows(like ET and extra) they really did push ruben.. i was clay all the way...
Date: 5/29/2003 6:39:00 PM  From Authorid: 22852    I called over 20 times for Clay but only got a busy signal. But I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason it the higher powers saw fit for Ruben to win, but it doesn't matter, they both will have a CD released.
Date: 5/29/2003 6:43:00 PM  From Authorid: 30621    I thought Ruben only won by 1,300 votes. This was the total given by Ryan Seacrest? at the very end of the show and also by Fox news the next day.
Date: 5/29/2003 7:00:00 PM  From Authorid: 45948    Well no offense, but it's thier own fault for not paying attention! I mean come on, all the letters go in order on the phone. You honestly don't believe that more than 200,000 people thought the "O" was between P and R....come on now.
Date: 5/29/2003 7:01:00 PM  From Authorid: 48689    I agree. I thought Clay would win...everybody I knew did...so yeah...
Date: 5/29/2003 7:35:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53052    angel eyes i honestly DO believe many many people(easily that number) mistakenly dialed wrong i would not doubt it for a second!
Date: 5/29/2003 7:43:00 PM  From Authorid: 45948    Ok maybe they did vote wrong, but they shouldn't start crying about it now. Personally if I did something that stupid, I wouldn't admit it. I learned the alphabet before kindergarten. I could understand if they were saying they had some technical problems with the phone lines or something like that, but to actually say that that many people misdialed in some stupid way like that is just a little too unbelievable to me.... Sorry, I just don't buy it.
Date: 5/29/2003 7:46:00 PM  ( Admin-DNL )   this is interesting. I do believe Ruben one fair and square but hearing stuff like this makes me wonder! I wanted Clay to win but he will get a recording contract too and will probably be as successful as Ruben. It really didn't matter who won.
Date: 5/29/2003 7:49:00 PM  From Authorid: 45948    I so agree with you Danielle. The only difference between the two of them is who got the actual title "American Idol"
Date: 5/29/2003 7:53:00 PM  ( Admin-DNL )   I wish they would make it so you could vote online next year, there are too many flaws in the voting system IMO. Also you wouldn't have to deal with those busy signals.
Date: 5/29/2003 8:00:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53052    i do also agree that they will both get contracts... but it's alot of publicity you get for having the title "american idol"... there was contraversial voting last year too if i remember
Date: 5/29/2003 8:00:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53052    i don't think it was the actual people admitted to it.. it's the tele-com company that came out and said it... it would be nice to vote online it would be nice that canadians could vote(because we do get the signal and we do watch it on canadian channels)....
Date: 5/29/2003 8:05:00 PM  From Authorid: 13897    aww i think they both deserved it! still... Clay will still be a big star, i think. no matter who had gotten the title. =)
Date: 5/29/2003 8:30:00 PM  From Authorid: 45948    Ok, think about it this way, in 10 years, if you ask someone who was the 2nd American Idol....not many people would answer it right, but if you were to ask them who is Ruben Studdard and who is Clay Aiken, they would probably know. The title means nothing. It's what they do afterward!!
Date: 5/29/2003 8:33:00 PM  From Authorid: 45948    I do agree with you about Canadians should vote, that's not right to let you watch the program but can't have a say in the outcome!!
Date: 5/29/2003 9:29:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53052    the title holds some marit... people usually remember who came in first... like you probally remember who came in the winner of the first survivor but not the runner up.. the title doesn't give JUST bragging rights... it also opens doors to things such as interviews and tons of publicity on all the talk shows.... but i do agree they will both get albums and they will both have a future in the music business(there is no denying that)
Date: 5/29/2003 10:05:00 PM  From Authorid: 14754    well maybe it was just meant to be that Clay did not win..now he can go on his own and get a recording deal, unstead of having to be under the wings of..Whats his face?..oh yaa...Simon.

Date: 5/30/2003 6:53:00 AM  From Authorid: 2030    Well it allows the liberals a bit of revenge for the Florida Presidential election.
