Tense swimming pool rescue for llama mama-to-be....Flame-On

(5/29/03 - DES MOINES, IA) — A llama mama-to-be caused some tense moments in Des Moines, Iowa.

The pregnant animal, named Miss Simona, fell into Maria Rough's family swimming pool. Llamas can swim, but not very well.

Rough held the pregnant llama's head above water while family members called 911. Firefighters showed up, but they needed help, too.

Animal control officer Carol Gass arrived and began talking to Miss Simona. She coaxed the llama to the shallow end of the pool, where firefighters managed to get a rope around the animal's neck and pull it to safety.

Rough says she was so hysterical, she could hardly watch the mama llama rescue.
