Date: 5/27/2003 9:48:00 PM From Authorid: 45630 My mum and dad have found that if you keep putting something on like a non-toxic zinc cream or something after a few licks the cat hates the taste and it will associate meddling with it's sores with a bad tatste. This has to be done a few times but it does work apparently! |

Thanks Becky..Yeah he licks them prior to the bloody sore. But that's jsut to stop him licking the sore. He'd probably do more. And he's such a pretty boy. He's up on the USM junkies page with me.He has long fur and I'd hate him ahve to re-grow alot of it.As his fur takes long to grow. *Canuck Hugs* -des |

Date: 5/27/2003 10:43:00 PM From Authorid: 53052 are you sure it isn't an allergy??? it sounds like hot spots(what are usually caused by allergies)... when my dog had an allergy he did exactly that he licked and licked he bite himself red and bleeding... could it be dry skin?? |
Date: 5/27/2003 11:02:00 PM From Authorid: 27046 Could it be that his skin is dry? Have you tried brushing or massaging with your fingers to stimulate oil glands? My cat loves people to pet her but she is very testy about her back and hind area. However when she starts with the licking and constant cleaning she will allow me to place her on the floor facing away and give her a good complete body scratch from head to toe. She stretches herself out and when she has had enough she pulls herself up. It also helps to remove a lot of unshed hair that she ends up licking up during her cleanings. I did this today because I noticed she has been cleaning herself a lot lately, low and behold she has a bit of flaking in her coat from her skin. Could he possible be trying to hydrate his own skin and get his oil glands working but over doing it? |
Date: 5/28/2003 4:18:00 AM From Authorid: 18527 It sounds like a nervous habit, like people who bite thier nails etc... try buying "Bitter Apple" or "Bitter Lime" an all natural spray that makes them taste yucky so they don't lick, and ask your dog about some cortisone or maybe a sedative |
