Hey, I was was just wonderin if anyone was on Depro Prevera(sp?) also known as the Depro Shot. For those of you who don't know what it is, Depro Prevera is a birth control method that is 99.3 percent accurate (99.something or other). Its a shot that stops your period (your body THINKS its pregnant and when you're "pregnant" you can't get pregnant cause your body doesn't release the eggs or something like that) and you have to get the shot every three months.

The reason I want to use it is to get off my period. you may think this is an excuse but please listen lol. I AM a virgin and I don't have the BIGGEST intentions to lose it either lol so its not like I want to go on it to have birth control,..but even if thats what I was using it for, it wouldn't be a biggie cause HPYERTHETICALLY I was being responsiible,...right?!?

I'm enemic(sp?!) its a problem people have (I can't think straight today)...umm when someone loses blood they pass out easily. I have to take iron supplements and even then if I lose blood it isn't good. As a kid, I was REALLY REALLY Thin and I am relatively still thin. I'm 108 pounds and stand at 5'1 (which is a LITTLE less than average but still very healthy). Yet,...I always seem to get a REALLY heavy period and in the summer it gets worse. I may sound like a loser cause I'm complaining about my period but...lately like in the past 4 months I've been having REALLY REALLY bad cramps, and it seems to be getting heavier and heavier. (I've had it for about 2.5 years) WHen I'm on it, all my plans get destroyed and its like hard to have a good time. This is the third summer with it and it like seriously ruins my summer. ITs sometimes irregular (cause its only been 2.5 years)((I've never skipped a month tho), so some months I get it earlier and some months its later so I have to unfortunately anticipate it (as pathetic as that sounds)...

I talked to my mom about it today and we had a long talk. we talked about this before but I was 15 and she wasn't quite sure. I'm legally now able to go and get it myself but I would of felt bad "sneaking" behind my moms back when it isn't a big deal. I even told her today that I could go and get it myself but it was my choice to talk to her about it...and of course she gave me the whole sex talk. Why is it that parents are soooo dead serious when they do it and they wonder why we laugh. With my kids, I'm just going to be serious but not go over board with it...it really freaks us out lol (my mom had to use all these technical terms and spoke with unneccessary amount of BIG words lol). ANYWAY...

what do you think and know about Depro Prevera? I know it costs (depending on where you live and if its legal) $30-$40.00 CDN. My sister whos almost 18 is on it and my mom found out today (well she sorta knew already)... I can talk to my sister about it but I like other people's point of view. Whats yours?!

Date: 5/27/2003 7:43:00 PM  From Authorid: 36766    if it'll help you w/ the blood thing, I say go for it
Date: 5/27/2003 7:44:00 PM  From Authorid: 44158    You also get spotting and stuff, talk it over with ur doctor and see what he/she thinks. good luck..
Date: 5/27/2003 7:48:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 54155    MY sister said that the first couple months you still probably get your period and there are defintly the days wehre u get it for like a day...but I have it for like 7 sometimes 8 days (on average) (sometimes 6 if I'm lucky) and its pretty heavy the whole way through. =) Thanks guys!

Did anyone experience any side effects?

Date: 5/27/2003 8:15:00 PM  From Authorid: 11341    I was on the Depo shot, it did BAD things to me. I had my monthly visitor for 6 WHOLE months straight! So the myth that you dont have it is just that a myth. Not for all I suppose, but it was a myth for me. I also did get pregnant on the Depo shot, but had a miscarriage. After the second shot a miscarriage and 6 months of Aunt Flow visiting, my doctor refused to put me back on it. There are meds that can be taken to get rid of horrid cramps, ask your doc what he/she thinks is best. Good luck!
Date: 5/27/2003 8:21:00 PM  From Authorid: 45948    First of all, you DEFINATELY need to talk to a Dr. first and make sure this is the right thing. Yes, I did use the Depo shot, but instead of missing my periods, i had one for THREE months straight......non stop. No wonder it was called birth control...LOL. The doctor told me that certain people have certain reactions to it. My best friend was the completo opposite, she didn't have one at all for the three months, so it can go either way. Good luck!!
Date: 5/27/2003 9:18:00 PM  From Authorid: 16845    I've heard some pretty bad things about it.....personally I wouldn't do it because after you've stopped it takes so long to get out of your system it becomes hard to concieve....*Shrugs* that's just me though....talk to your docto about it....maybe it is an option for you....Just definately not one for me EEK lol
Date: 5/27/2003 10:36:00 PM  From Authorid: 53052    my suggestion is to go to the doc and talk to your doc about it... if your body couldn't handle losing the blood it would stop on it's own... but i suggest you talk to your doc about this before you go out and do it.. you can call make an appointment on your own and talk to your family doc(your mom doesn't even have to know that you talked to the doc) the depo shot isn't right for everyone
Date: 5/28/2003 5:55:00 AM  From Authorid: 46320    I have been on the shot for 3 or 4 years now, I have not had any problems with it. I like it because it is not something I have to think about every day. But everyone here is correct, you need to talk with a doctor and figure out what is best for you. Good Luck, and if you want to talk more about this, message me. Be Good...
Date: 5/28/2003 5:59:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 54155    Does it have to be your family doctor? Last summer, I was in the ninth grade GOING into grade ten, and I was talking to him about it. He was convinced that it was a hormone thing and would last only a couple months since mybody is out of wack. I'm not saying that 2.5 years is a long time but having it HEAVY regularly wasn't uncommon. He seemed to...kinda discourage me from it. But he's the doctor that also said that I didn't have a wart when I did, and never thought to question my cyst and let it grow for a couple months. He doesn't seem to be a very good doctor.

I didnt know that you could gte it for three to six months straight. How often does that happen? Why did it go on for so long? For the people who got it for longer, what was your body like? (short, tall, thin, not so thing, small boobs, medium boobs, etc. etc.)

Date: 5/28/2003 6:08:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 54155    I don't care if I conceive...I'm 16 and I don't WANT to conceive..of course like when I'm older yea...but after 10 years your chance decreases in 40 per cent..but by ten years...I don't think I'll be on it as I will be 26 and will probably wwant kids then..anyway. thanks.
