Memorial Day Revisited.....................Warrior Spirit

I posted this a year ago, but feel it is appropriate to post it again this year, especially after the events of the past few months.

To many, this weekend is the first weekend of summer, or just another holiday. To some however, this weekend is a time to remember, and to reflect.

I would ask that as you go about your Memorial Day weekend festivities, that you take a little time to do a few things.

First, say a prayer. Pray for those who returned and now must live with their past. There pain is something that no medicine can ever cure. Also, say a prayer for those who did not return, that there spirits may find peace.

Second, whenever you see the Flag this weekend, stop for a moment and ask yourself, "What does it stand for?".

Third, If you happen to see an aged veteran going to or returning from a Memorial service, stop him or her, and tell them thanks. Tell them that you really do care for what they did, and that you mean it.

Fourth, go to the store and buy a small flag. Go to your local cemetary, find the gravesite of a veteran, and place it on their grave.

Last, while you are at the cemetary, if you happen upon a mother or wife crying over a grave marked with a flag, go to her and try to comfort her. Tell her that her loved ones sacrifice was not in vain.

I hope you all enjoy your Memorial Day weekend. Just remember those who gave there lives so that you could have it.

Date: 5/22/2003 8:52:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 47296    I will do the same this weekend as I have done many Memorial Days in the past. I will lay flowers on my father's grave, as well as a brace of American flags. I will say a prayer that a day will come that others do not have to die for the freedoms we enjoy. I will also pray that those who are still listed as MIA will some day be returned to the land which they swore to defend.

Date: 5/24/2003 3:45:00 PM  From Authorid: 28946    I remember-I was taught that by my folks. We would visit the grave yards and take flowers to lay on our relations graves. Mommy and Daddy taught us even how to walk in the graveyard respectfully and not to walk on a grave. We would see the flags put on the graves of the soldiers and so many of my family members had these flags. I remember and I am crying now for the ones that gave so that we could be...
