well secret service is a good thing for thier protection even though there no longer in office people still want to get "even" with them for cuts of things they did in office and provide them with a home if they have no home to go to is a nice thing...and pay for "unemplyment" just like they would for any other worker until they have a job of thier own |

Secret service is a must, you know how many people are going to want Bush dead after he leaves office? You can not trust Americans, we are a rash and unthinking country, (the radicals that is). |

Yeah they would have to be paid so we can wheel em out every so often to play loose cannons... like Carter. Actually I like Carter. |

I think that they should be given a release benefit, however much that would be, but I also agree that they shouldn't be taken care of for the rest of their lives. Yes, they need protection but no, they don't need a house. they can afford to buy one themselves. |

Here is what they get: They get a million bucks severance benefit, a limousine with a driver, and the secret service for protection for as long as they want it; they can deny it or use it for a while, then let them go. That is all from the federal government, and the only things they get from it. Other things may come from their home states or other loyal people, but the other stuff is not official. If we stop this tradition, I doubt it would help the vast national debt we have. ~GypsyHawk~ |

I didn't know they were paid after they leave. I see nothing wrong with it. How long after are they paid?? I mean it doesn't really seem fair, they work there whole lives to become President. I don't see why they shouldn't be paid. It's not like they were saying "You want frys with that?" But hey what do I know |

If they are paid at all....I think that they should be paid only the standard "minimum wage" that they expect other people in this country to be able to live off of. They approved it....therefore, they should be able to believe that they themselves could live on minimum wage. |

living in a country where we elect our officials and have them represent us, and ask everything of them for 4 to 8 years, i dont think its a bad idea to reward them. besides, they are still representives of america. they are many times asked to gives speeches or give advice, and sometimes work with international policies and treaties. whether you like the official or not, i'd say do it out of respect for the job. |

I think it's fair, they ran the country and what are they going to do afterwards? What job could be better than being a president? lol heh, there's something for a resume'. Last Job: President of the United States. lol I agree, even after they are out of office, there are those who might want revenge on the President for whatever reason, just because they are out of office doesn't mean they are safe. God Bless |

ok, agree with the secret service, but still these are educated men who can go out and support themselves when there are people starving on the streets. Yeah, alot of them probably put themselves there are some who are mentally disabled who could use that money |

I think it's only right. They are underpaid as it is. It's only our duty to take care of them after them taking care of us. Or at least trying to take care of us. |

No I don't think they should, it's like the pollies over here and the ex Prime Ministers, bludging off the taxpayers and don't tell me they didn't make enough dosh while they were in power, they still have a secretary, a car, protection *shakes head* and then get other jobs and make another fortune....our ex pollies and Prime Ministers get a great pay out and continue to get paid ...No, it wrong and should be stopped.... |
