I don't think the Service Members thought it was tacky. And they are the ones who count. |

I'm with Kelly here. It seemed to me that they were pretty happy with his visit when they gave him several standing ovations. I just thank God everyday that I'm not the president. No one can ever make everyone happy..... |

Course it was necessary... we're all stupid. He thinks we'll vote for him next year. We probably will. Cheney has agreed to be his running mate again ... which means they're not finished yet.. they have something else up their sleeves. They've got Syria to overthrow... and north Korea. Iran and Libya maybe... he's going to bankrupt us. |

Yes, I agree that it boosted the service-mens morale. But,we shouold all know he had another reason for doing that. Imagine how good it will look for him in comercials for his next campaign crawling out of an airplanes cock-pit in a regular issue flight suit. Noone will be able to top that campaign. Only problem is.....not every american is a sheep that will followa blind shepard. -AcidStorm |

I think that the service members would have rathered been taken home on time to their loved ones and THEN having the president address them at home. |

I agree r1; it was tacky and not necessary. I think he may have done it in a time of war for the same reason his dad went golfing at Martha's Vineyard when he had a crisis with Saddam; they want to show that they can do what they want to do in the face of an enemy such as Saddam, Irag, or the terrorists in general. ~GypsyHawk~ |

Too see the leader of the nation you are risking your life for come out of a plane to greet YOU as you come home. That is priceless, may dad was in the military for 28 years, and the amount of honor one feels in bieng congradualted by the person who leads the country you go out there and are willing to DIE for come and shake your hand. That says something, say what you will but I would rather have Bush leading this nation as a "blind shepard" than having Gore lead this nation at all. |

the statement was he put his life in the hands of the military theat put theirs in his. You will not find a service member who dissliked this gesture. As for delaying... How do you know when the ship is schedualed to return? you have a security clearence and are on the need to know basis? |

I think he deserves the right to do it. He got us through a war, and helped free the Iraqi people. I think it showed his deep respect for the military men, who were fighting overseas. He was one of them at one time, and he was just showing them that he still is. I commend him for being so bold. |

The militarymen on the ship seemed more than excited to see him do what he did. My boyfriend is over in Kuwait right now, and from what he's told me, they all love him. My boyfriend always says, "George is my boss." And, most if not all of them, have a high respect for him. |

Necessary, of course not. Inspirational to those troops, ABSOLUTELY. And what's all this delaying of the coming home and wasting taxpayer money? The ship continued moving the entire time he was aboard. Wasting money? I can't see how this was a waste of money in the slightest. |

When I was in the Navy Pres. Clinton landed on my ship the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Independence (CV-62) in a helicopter, in port, in Japan. Was that a waste? Half the things the Pres. does could be condisered a waste. But no I dont think this was a waste. |
