Reality Shows

With the networks flooding the airways with so-called "Reality TV" doesn't it contradict what it originally was designed to do? I mean with 4 out of 5 shows being some sort of reality show, it desensitizes us and it's not the shocking reality attention and rating grabbing entertainment anymore. I mean who wants to watch other people's sorry lives? This is to be entertainment? And who are they to decide what families we want to follow for days to see how they get along or don't get along?

Am I alone on this one?

Date: 5/7/2003 9:40:00 AM  From Authorid: 600    For some reason I just can't get into reality shows. I find it amazing that anyone can go on a tv show to find their spouse as well. I guess I'm out of the loop a little because I'd rather watch crime drama shows like all the Law and Orders, Crossing Jordan, and the crime detective programs on Discovery.
Date: 5/7/2003 9:42:00 AM  From Authorid: 50193    It's all a waste of timeslots
Date: 5/7/2003 9:53:00 AM  From Authorid: 53284    Like so many things on TV if there is one successful show, next season there will be a bunch more like it. The problem is that the novilty of reality TV has worn off but there will be a glut of reality TV until someone markets a different kind of successful show then that one will be copied. So much of TV is utterly unwatchable.
Date: 5/7/2003 10:04:00 AM  From Authorid: 15228    I've never had any interest in the reality shows. I watched a little of American Idol and lost interest after about the fifth show. I have to live my own sorry life, why do I want to watch someone elses???
Date: 5/7/2003 10:24:00 AM  From Authorid: 22080    i say reality tv is never reality because they never have real people, they either are stunningly "attractive" or have many issues
Date: 5/7/2003 10:25:00 AM  From Authorid: 19772    Well I have to sort of diagree. I mean the main purpose of TV is to make you forget about your own boring life for awhile so why not watch someone who's life is even more pathetic than yours? At least then you can feel good about things in your own life for once. Personally what I'm sick of are Soap operas. Everyone is rich, no one works, no one dies (for very long anyway), everyone is beautiful and has a perfect body, and everyone is sleeping around with everyone else. I say if we're gonna take anything off the air it should be this crap. About the Reality shows I'm neutral. Some of it I watch...some of it is even too sad for me. And how about this new Miss Dog Beauty Pagent? Now that's a waiste of air time. JMO ~Gabrielle~

Date: 5/7/2003 11:18:00 AM  From Authorid: 56297    Well i agree in some way because I dont like any reality shows well except for American idol I love that show!!! Oh and Tail dating but thats it :P
Date: 5/7/2003 12:33:00 PM  From Authorid: 10915    I agree with you. I find them disgusting, pathetic and not worthy of watching.
Date: 5/7/2003 8:59:00 PM  From Authorid: 54707    I hate "Reality-T.V.". I find all of those shows completely stupid and pointless. When "The Bachleor" is the ugliest most disguesting male on earth, or the people on "RealWorld" are serial killers it will completelt uninterest me.

Date: 5/9/2003 11:59:00 PM  From Authorid: 60162    I like them. Its like throwing rats in a maze and from a psychological perspective, its fancinating to see how they respond to other people, how they get out of trouble and how they win the game. Survivor in particular, its amazing to see all the strategies and how far people will go to win that $million.
Date: 5/11/2003 11:53:00 AM  From Authorid: 3836    I can enjoy a fre reality shows. I love The Real World and I someitmes like to watch Fear Factor. I think there are just too many out there. Joe Millionaire, Married By America, All American Girl, and The Bachelor, I think are just all too overboard. From what I hear, none of the couples there have stayed together. So whats the point of watching them anyway?
Date: 5/13/2003 8:34:00 AM  From Authorid: 17204    I like reality TV, it's fun to watch
