Buggy Drag Race Leaves Woman In Hospital
An Indiana woman remained in stable condition late last week at Adams County Memorial Hospital after being injured as a result of an alleged buggy drag racing contest. Ruth Ann Schwartz, 31, rural Berne, was injured when she was thrown from a buggy that struck another buggy head-on on C.R 300W near CR 350S at 10:36 p.m. April 13. Schwartz's seven year-old son was also ejected upon impact but was not injured.
The Indiana State Police have forwarded a report of the incident to the Adams County Prosecuting Attorney's office, alleging misdemeanor charges of participating in a speed contest against both Steffen E. L. Schwartz and Victor M. R. Schwartz, both of rural Berne.
The two were allegedly side-by-side in the southbound lane of the road racing and came upon a northbound buggy driven by David D. L. Wickey. Victor M. R. Schwartz's buggy struck the Wickey buggy head-on. A veterinarian was called to the scene as one of the horses was injured in the mishap. Injuries were apparently not serious as the veterinarian was able to treat the animal there.
Wickey was arrested for driving under the influence and was held at the Adams County Law Enforcement Center until Tuesday night, when he posted a $500 cash bond for release You can join Unsolved Mysteries and post your own mysteries or interesting stories for the world to read and respond to Click hereScroll all the way down to read replies.Show all stories by Author: 55841 ( Click here )
