38 years ago The Kinks begin their first headlining U.K. tour with the Yardbirds and Goldie and Gingerbreads providing support. (1965) 38 years ago Bob Dylan's "Don't Look Back" tour begins in the U.K. (1965) 35 years ago Los Angeles' first so-called total environmental mixed-media rock ballroom, the Kaleidoscope opens on the Sunset Strip, with the Jefferson Airplane, Canned Heat and Fever Tree playing. (1968)

35 years ago Blood, Sweat and Tears founder Al Kooper, along with saxophonist Randy Brecker, leaves the band after recording the band's first album, "Child Is Father To The Man." It's released in June of that year. (1968) 34 years ago The Fifth Dimension are awarded a gold single for "Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In," a medly from the hit rock musical "Hair." (1969)

32 years ago The New York Times reports Bill Graham plans to close the Fillmore East, New York City's rock music mecca since 1968. The former movie theater is set to close in late May. (1971)

26 years ago Steve Miller's "Jet Airliner" is released. (1977)

25 years ago The Clash, the Tom Robinson Band and X-Ray Specs play at a Rock Against Racism rally in London. (1978)

23 years ago The Roger Daltrey film, "McVicar," opens in London. Daltrey's has a hit from the soundtrack called "Free Me." (1980)

20 years ago Muddy Waters dies of a heart attack. He was 68 years old. (1983)

11 years ago Amidst the rioting and looting in Los Angeles following the Rodney King verdict, Madonna's bustier is stolen from Fredrick's Of Hollywood. A $1,000 reward is offered for its return. (1992)

10 years ago Guitarist Mick Ronson dies of liver cancer. He was 46. (1993) 4 years ago Nazareth drummer Darrell Sweet dies after suffering a fatal heart attack before a show in New Albany, Indiana. (1999)

4 years ago All five members of Aerosmith visit shooting victim Lance Kirklin in a Colorado hospital before their show in Denver that evening. The band dedicates "Living On The Edge" to the student, who was one of 28 wounded and 13 killed by two deranged classmates at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado on April 20. (1999)
