Anything For A Cheap Thrill ¤Frankenstein¤

Indians are reportedly flocking to try a new craze, getting high on scorpion stings.

Roadside stalls in the Bharuch district of Gujarat are offering customers the chance to get their palms stung by scorpions kept in aluminium containers.

The Times of India reports that the momentary pain gives way to an illusionary floating feeling.

The scorpion stings cost up to about $3.00 each.

The sting sellers are very secretive about their trade and entertain new clients only with proper references.

But one store operator was quoted by the paper as saying: "You should at least try it once...it's a life-time experience."

Studies have revealed that scorpion venom contains a variety of compounds, neurotoxins, histamine, seratonin, enzymes, enzyme inhibitors that provide the high.

The enzymes and toxins are actually used by the arachnid to digest its food and paralyze its prey.

Experts say most scorpions are not fatal to humans but any scorpion can kill someone who is allergic to their venom.

Date: 4/29/2003 11:38:00 PM  From Authorid: 36901    I was stung by one of those stupid things in Oklamhoma when I was a kid visiting my cousin. It hurt like hell and I can't imagine anyone being stupid enough to pay for "a sting". I don't remember a floating feeling...all I remember is begging the doctor to cut my foot off!

We've got a ton of scorpions down here (especially in the summer). They aren't the big black ones, just small, almost transparent. Regardless of size or color, I freak out! Now, instead of being freaked out, I should collect them and sell the stings for a profit! Man, people will think of anything to make a buck! YUCK!

Date: 4/30/2003 3:44:00 PM  From Authorid: 53052    oy! what's next?
Date: 4/30/2003 4:15:00 PM  From Authorid: 31154    that's rediculous. people must want to die. scorpion venom is not something I have ever been tested against for a reaction and I am guess most people have not..so they have a 50/50 of killing themselves with just one try. Sorry, my life is worth more than $3
Date: 5/1/2003 5:03:00 PM  From Authorid: 12600    LMAO...I suppose this isn't really too much worse than sticking a needle in your arm to shoot up or eating (ewwww) a "shroom" that has grown on a cow patty. The things people come up with will never cease to amaze me:-)
