Cloning Religious, And Historical Figures, Good? Bad? How About Jesus? Or Kennedy?

o.k....I am creating a scenerio here. Let's say cloning has reached the healthy human being stage. (within the next five years). And, we can use the DNA from the dead, to clone healthy, human beings. (remember, this is make-believe, and setting up for our moral & legal debate).

Now, if we had, the UNDISPUTED DNA, to use for cloning, of people like Jesus Christ, Moses, JFK, RFK, Abe Lincon, Muhammad, Ghandi, etc....

1) Should they be cloned?

2)What would be the ramifications if they were? After all, doesn't the cell have memeory? Cannot that memory be applied to the new creation? Wouldn't that be PART of the temptation, to KNOW what went on in the mind of these (and other) great religious, and political figures?

3) what if they could be cloned, and improved? ie: cloning Richard Nixon for his brillant mind, and political savy, but remove any undesirable personality traits.....who would decide what is "desirable"?

What are your thoughts on the matter?

Date: 4/29/2003 8:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 36079    You can clone the cells, but it would be a completly different soul in that body, like if you decided to clone yourself, of course that clone would not get your soul, but a new soul.
Date: 4/29/2003 8:26:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15070    thank you, SmurfPoo...I know cells have memory, and on the question of a "soul", I am not sur how they get into a body to begin with. I mean, I think it happens at conception, but there really do seem to be people "without souls". I would still think you would imitate the "parent" cell. They have found that even in organ transplant, the recipient begins to emulate the donor. Even taking on personality traits, and "tastes". Makes me wonder......
Date: 4/29/2003 8:30:00 PM  From Authorid: 47699    You would have the body but you wouldn't have the person. Your cloned Ghandi might turn out to be a serial killer.
Date: 4/29/2003 8:36:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15070    I agree Frankie, and an Adolph Hitler clone could be a great artist, something the "original" Hitler attained to. You know, you have to really look at the nurture vs. nature, and pre-disposition question here. Even in breeding, like the breeding of animals, parents are choosen not only for physical perfection, but disposition. After all, why have a perfect dog, if he is not able to be handled? I believe, and this is my BELIEF, that certain personality traits are in fact, hereditary. So, would not a clone be even closer to the original, than say, a child, who has a mixed gene pool? See my point?
Date: 4/29/2003 8:39:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15070    I mean, look at the parents-seperated-from-child-and-later-located stories. Some siblings, seperated at birth, (or infancy) drive the same make & model cars, when they finally find each other! It is even more appearent in twins, who are seperated & later brought togather.
Date: 4/29/2003 8:50:00 PM  From Authorid: 45630    It wouldn't work because we are all a product of our environments. If World War one hadn't happened and there had been nothing wrong with Germany would Hitler have risen to power? I don't think he would have. And with Jesus, do you think he would be allowed to walk around alive today? He would be experimented on to see how he could have been created through immacualte conception!
Date: 4/29/2003 8:57:00 PM  From Authorid: 34487    1)No 2)Just because a person could be genetically cloned, they would not retain the memory of the original person. They would be genetically the same, yes but they would be a different person. They don't have the same soul, they don't have the same life events, therefore they won't have the same memories. They would simply be an identical looking person to the person in the past but with a totally new identity. They would have the same capabilities and tendencies but who's to say how they'd choose to use them in their lives.
3)cloning humans in my opinion, is messing to far with mother nature... playing God so to speak. There are some things better left alone. There is really not need to clone a human being other than the desire of man to prove scientific capabilities to himself. In all honesty, to clone someone and leave them with the expectations of the person they were cloned from, is cruel and inhuman. Good post

Date: 4/29/2003 8:59:00 PM  From Authorid: 34487    lots of typos in there.... sorry! Last word I meant INHUMANE.
Date: 4/29/2003 9:07:00 PM  From Authorid: 22080    hey maybe the cloning would be the second coming of the "messiah"
Date: 4/29/2003 9:24:00 PM  From Authorid: 55967    I wouls liken it to having an identical twin. They would be two separate, completely different people with perhaps some very general similar talents that could be matched with other people as well. ~GypsyHawk~
Date: 4/29/2003 10:24:00 PM  From Authorid: 28767    But can a clone have a soul? Peace Out..
Date: 4/29/2003 11:00:00 PM  From Authorid: 3125    LSG..The way I see this is that there are no two snowflakes exactly alike and there are no two human beings exactly alike. We can gather a million snowflakes that are made out of the same principle components that all the others are made from, but never will two be an exact replica of the other. That's the way it is with humans. There are many identical twins and each share some of the same traits, but they are never a clone of one another. I do not think exact cloning will ever be possible. Once were are made, the mold is lost forever.
Date: 4/30/2003 1:50:00 AM  From Authorid: 11240    I echo Krazed Monkey: Can a clone have a soul? Smurfpoo says the clone would have a "new soul". I disagree. I would offer the idea that there could be no soul in a clone, as I feel that once one dies, their soul returns from Whence it Came (God), and a "person" manufactured by cloning would not be subject to the Gift of His Grace. To answer the questions posed by the debate: 1.) No. 2.) A clone may be able to retain the memory of its "donor" thereby reviving that spirit (mind), but, as my first remarks indicated, without a soul (feelings/emotions), that spirit could only be one of this world, IMO. 3.) How about I judge what is desireable? (You know I love to judge God Bless.
Date: 4/30/2003 3:47:00 AM  From Authorid: 62118    1) I dont see why they should be cloned
2) the cell has memory but it doesnt store our brain memories, if it did we'd have no need for a brain.
3)Why not get the genetics from everyone one and make the ultimate human?

Date: 4/30/2003 9:39:00 AM  From Authorid: 53836    there would be no soul, hence zombies...
Date: 4/30/2003 4:55:00 PM  From Authorid: 58030    i don't think it would work, it's like, basically smurf poo & frank said EXACTLY the same thing just using different words, but saying it would work and you had two of the same people, (let's use hitler as an example) i read that one of the reasons it was believed he hated jews, was that it was a jewish dr. that was caring for his mother when she died, (something like that) so if that had never happend the world war would never have happend, a lot of the world is chance and coincidence.
Date: 4/30/2003 6:00:00 PM  From Authorid: 58030    what's funny is that u just compared jesus and kennedy (kinda but not really) (reffering to the title)
Date: 4/30/2003 10:55:00 PM  From Authorid: 62118    I think they'd stil have a soul, but it wouldnt be the originial
