I've worked with a lot of voice teachers and this year all of my teachers have asked me to sing as high as I can and as low as I can which are two very different notes. Well, I started off with a 3 octave voice, I can sing the treble octaves and the first level of Soprano. I didn't have a middle voice which would include middle C, I couldn't hit those notes. I could hit higher than the first level of Soprano but I couldn't sing the octave of it.
Well today I was working with another voice teacher and singing very low. He moved me up the octave. Then up the other octave to the middle notes and had me sing alone and I told me that I could sing the harmony of it and showed me the notes. I suddenly didn't care about the pitch of the song but more that I had gotten the middle octave, and obtained a four octave vocal range.
Being the greedy perfectionist that I am I'm currently striving for that fifth octave which are notes in vain of Whitney Houston's I Will Always Love You, Toni Braxton and Mariah Carey who can all sing extremely high. As you noticed I named all female singers as most male singers such as myself stop singing high after middle school but I somehow can sing those notes (not to the level that they can but for a freshman in highschool with no formal vocal training other than necessities during plays and stuff it would help to land larger roles)
It's not that hard for me to sing up to a key but I can't just sing an octave without starting off in my normal vocal range and working up to it. Can anyone tell me how to practice and reach it. I really want to reach it as the chorus teacher chose me for the part and has a lot riding on my success and I just want to show that she can pick people.
Well thankyou for your help. Much love.
