Givers and Receivers

I had moved to St Augustine, Florida in 1987 in on order to find better employment. The town where I lived is full of history & happenings. The Hollywood Movie Actor; Jayne Mansfield's Mansion estate was just a few blocks from where I had rented an apartment. Everything; from her car to her mansion was pink. In mid June I received a phone from my baby brother, he too wanted to find better employment, so, we planned later in the week, I would pick him up at the airport.. So, finally the day arrived, we returned to the apartment, he got settled in & with his background of operating heavy equipment, he found employment & began working the following week with a powerline construction company whom moved frequently from state to state & overseas. My brother made friends quickly with some of his co-workers & occasionally, they would come over visiting on the weekends. I worked the evening shift so by the time my baby brother came in from work, I was already gone, but being the good sister that I am ( lol ), I would prepare his dinner, leaving it in the fridge when he got in from work.. On this particular day., I had an off day from work, so, Wanda, a friend from the company my brother worked for, had called, & came over wanting to go shopping at a boutique & then grab some lunch at a nifty cafe a couple blocks from the apartment.. While we were there sitting, waiting for our lunch, the strangest feeling came over me.., I broke in to a cold sweat & began chilling, as though I were freezing, the temp. that day was at least 98 to 100 degrees. Wanda looked at me from across the booth asking me if I was o.k. I said, no, I have this terrible feling that something is wrong.., the sensation is awful., do you need to go back to the apartment she asked me& o her it might be a good idea., so when we were driving in to the drive she told me I was as white as a sheet.., I ran up the stairs to the apartment, jamming the key in to the door, I layed the keys down on the counter top, & began pacing back & forth in the kitchen to the living room. Wanda asked me to calm down, take slow deep breaths she had said.., I told her I just couldn't shake this feeling that something terrible was going to happen, but I didn't know what.., so, we went & sat on the sofa.., but I couldn't remain there, so, I got up, pacing some more, then like a lightening bolt,it hit me.., I turned looking at my little brother's photograph on the table there in the corner.., my brother..., what Wanda asked. It's my brother I said.., something is wrong. Wanda got up looking inside her purse, getting out her address book, she said I'll call the company, find out if there's something wrong.. There's no answer.., she stated then calling back a 3rd time while I continued to pray silent prayers for my brother's safety. Just then 1 of the company trucks drove up in tha apartments' driveway. Wanda took my hand & said we'll go out together. It was Kris; Wanda's husband & behind him, was my baby brother.. Kris looked at me & said what's the matter with you? You look like you've just seen a ghost.Hugging her husband, then greeting my brother Wanda asked Kris what happened at work today? Kris seemed suprised, looking from my brother to me then back to his wife., well, he started to say, then my brother spoke up & said it was nothing.., then Kris looked at his wife then at me & said how did you know? Wanda said, how did we know what she asked. Kris then began explaining to us, that he & my brother came down from 1 of the powerline towers & my brother bent down to pick up a piece of steel, I had stt w ahead of him when the boom came loose, something told me to turn around & when I did I saw that the boom was headed straight for him, & I ran, knocking out of the way. How did you know, Kris directed the question at me.. Wanda said we've had some afternoon.., my grandma called it the gift.., although she said it is between siblings, it usually happens more with twins.., premonitions, your brother is the Giver you are the Receiver.., when he is in danger, sad whatever, you receive this.. My brother & Kris laughed & Kris said.., oh, your grandma believes in those old wives tales.., then Wanda spoke up & said, well, something sure happened here today.. My brother said my sis a ike an old mother hen toward me.., we all laughed & Wanda said how about we all go grab something to eat?

Well, I have always had a special connection with my family, their happiness & safety has always been uppermost in my thoughts. However whether it was premonition, ESP who really knows, I'm only greatful my brother was unharmed..
