Very good point ya made and I agree..if you don't like a certain artist or a book don't buy it..it's as simple as that. |

Very good post! My parents went through the same thing growing up(the parents not liking there choices in music). I was lucky enough to be brought up with many music choices and books that I loved! I had parents that didnt censor the things I seen on tv, read or listened too! I believe I grew up not thinking that curse words or nudity was a big deal because of it. Just the way I was raised....*shrugs* |

Generally speaking, I don't agree with censorship, but I do believe that some forms of artistic expression should be kept from children who are not mature enough to completely understand what they're seeing or hearing. As far as albums or books being burned simply because the artist made a statement that the public doesn't agree with - well, freedom of speech works both ways. You're free to voice your opinion and the rest of American society is free to disagree with you, if they wish. ~Nytwolf~ |

Some censorship is necessary, but some things that are censored or whatever, are just censored for the dumbest things, good post |

I just did a presentation on this!! I am against the censoring of music CD's. When you buy the CD, you should hear everything. That's what you are paying for. I believe that if you don't want your child to listen to "profane" words, then why buy them a censored cd? It is still giving the same message. I believe that music on that radio should be censored because you can't control what they are playing. |

Generally I do not agree with censorship. If you raise your children right and teach them right from wrong what they read or hear will not change their views. I really do not sensor much of what my 11 year old sees or hears. I do limit sexual content. He can watch most what ever he wants but if it is rated pg. 13 and above I must be present or have already watched it myself. If there is not sexual content that I think goes above what he should see I don't have a problem with it. I only refuse to let him play some video games and the one that sticks out most in my mind is grand theft auto, I know there are others but the names are not coming to me. Now I will give you an example of how rasing your kid right helps. My son knows this game is not allowed. he knows he is not to play it, it is not allowed in my home. When he went to a friends house to stay the night his friend had the game, when his friend turned the game off my son said he was not allowed to play and he would go watch TV until his friend was done. The mother of the friend called me to let me know what had happened and that she took the game away for the time my son was there. what is even better is when my son came home he told me word for word what happened, same thing the mother said. So not only did he listen to what I told him even being that I was not there to stop him. He came home and told me about it. As far as the government censoring I disagree completely it is up to the parent of the children and for adults they can choose for themselves. As far as the Dixie chicks the people are making the decision. so be it. ... |

If we didn't have freedom of speech the Dixie Chicks might be dead, depending on which dictatorship they lived under. Freedom of speech doesn't mean you won't get critisized by what you say, it means the law cannot punish you for what you say. Aside from idiots not knowing what they are talking about I don't like censorship either. People just need to realize when they open their mouths not everyone is going to agree with them. |
